Got a buddy lives in a new construction neighborhood in Huntsville . He’s getting brand new 2 x’s in all kind of widths and full lengths or near it. He’s using it on all kinds of piddling projects.

I’d have him arrested if it was coming off my job site. That’s theft.

That's true.

I'd also fire the contractor that is wasting my material if the dumpster is being filled with "full lengths or near it." Lots of money gets wasted by lazy framers.

Many years ago. Ol boy living in a trailor. Subdivision started springing up next to him. Wasn't long before he started a house. Couple years later he finished it up. When he called to have the power turned on the utilities found out the meter base was stolen. Turns out all the materials had been. He almost went to prison

Yes it is. Still the builder's property until it is hauled off. I got a few 4x4 posts a few years ago but I called and got permission before I removed them from the dumpster.

You gonna call the law on a man who has permission to get the scraps from a dumpster??

I can see a trespassing charge for someone entering a construction area to retrieve items from a dumpster, but how is it theft if it is already discarded material? I would be far more concerned with people throwing their trash into my dumpster that I am paying for than I would be someone taking something out of it.

A lot of contractors put the dumpster on the public Right of way and sometimes in the street. No longer on "your" project at that point.

The cost for a single sheet of plywood right now will give a serious case of sticker shock! OSB ain't too far behind it, either. Crazy times for sure.

I told a buddy he needed to wait a while back and he went ahead n built and I'm glad he did cuz he was only about 15% higher on lumber at the time...its ridiculous, I've spent $600 on a playhouse and aint done now

Saw this today and thought about the post of fence pickets above. Not sure if it will help or not.

A friend met with his contractor yesterday to layout his new house plans on his property and was told the lumber prices have increased 35% from the time they signed contract and they discussed metal framing, he said it was almost as much as lumber.

Last I checked a metal 2x4x10 was $6.85/stick versus roughy $11.00/stick for lumber. This was about 30 days ago, rumor is that the metal guys figured this out and raised the prices on their metal studs to be more in line with lumber on the same lengths. I have not checked prices this week to confirm.

Stupid move.

We are looking at metal stud options on a couple of multi family projects right now because of the ridiculous lumber market.

Metal guys can really take over a market right now if they're smart.

Like I said, the prices above were valid 30 days ago and are/were legit. The comment that metal has followed lumber is simply something I was told the other day picking up some material. There's so much bull crap and rumor right now in construction and material pricing that I dont trust anything unless I get it quoted myself.
