I don’t have a boat. I’m thinking about going somewhere next year. I’ve found several places in Texas that seem really good. Have seen some place in the mobile bay and down around Panama City as well. I’m afraid of the Alabama Florida hunt because I know how duck hunting can be in Alabama. Corpus Christi. Thank me later

Good deal. Only red head I’ve ever seen buzzed the decoys in a lease I had in Crowder. There were 5 of us in the blind and we all missed. I think we’re were so stunned to see one, none of even got down on the stock to make a good shot!

I've shot them in 5 or 6 states but Texas is the best bet for consistent numbers. There are probably some big lake hunters in the Central flyway that work them pretty regular too.

I'm a little late to the party, but we killed bunches of them over the years. We primarily hunted the inter-coastal down by the Naval Air Station, Escambia Bay and now outside Panama City. Red Heads are diving ducks, you want see as many, down here in Alabama, up rivers as you will closer to the coast. I've been doing this since you could kill 10 ducks a day - up to 4 red heads - 10 blue bills - 10 mergansers (which we rarely ever shot, just a tough not much meat on it duck) -- I remember in the 80's it went down to 1 red head a day. It was all in when you killed them, we could kill 9 blue bills, then make the red head our last duck. We didn't have a boat, we hiked the decoys down to the beach, we ran a little over 100 decoys sometimes over 150 if we had someone that like to set up close to us. I remember the walk out on Pensacola Beach was awful from the road to the beach. At Gulf Beach, it was a lot easier to get to the water.
