My aunt bought a house that had a shed. The shed was filled with firewood stacked on pallets. It was in an enclosed part of
shed. A lot of it seems bad just wondering

Looks like my grandaddy's wood pile. He started burning wood usually in Oct and would burn till April. I have seen a fire in the heater in his house in early May.

If I had a fireplace and my wife lived at her parents, I’d burn one year around

Being retired and wanting to stay active can result in some unique albeit unplanned situations. I enjoy the work. I like running chainsaws. I split almost all of it by hand. By keeping it covered it will last 15 years or longer. I rotate it. And I burn a lot of it. I have no idea how many chords is out there. Its not my only heat source but when the heat kicks on I light a fire. And it keeps me outside and busy.

This is kind of a simplistic observation (rambling if you will) by an old guy but I've seen there tend to be two basic personality types of folks. There are doers and sitters. Doers want something to do. They enjoy being busy. They are miserable when they don't have something to do. Then there are sitters. They are totally happy to sit and do as little as possible to get by. And what effort they do present its geared to getting out of having to do something. I need something to do. And cutting, splitting, and stacking firewood fills up a bit of time. Plus at my age I don't know how much longer I'll be able to keep doing it. And the wife likes a fire. Its a real heat much warmer than the other.

These least 48 hrs have made me insane. Like I’m trapped in jail. Got out for a bit today then roads got back shitty. So I went home. Kids are out of school again tomorrow. So I commissioned them to go stack totes of firewood. Both are happy to go. We aren’t sitter around here. If I sit I’m miserable

I didn’t get out of bed til 6;45 this am. The wife already had a fire built in the den by then. It was nice to see her take initiative

There it is. Same here. I'm almost as bad with reloading as I am with firewood. When its too bad to be outside that's my backup activity. Weather should be better tomorrow - not as cold anyway.

She burn up all the kindling? Mine does every time. She fails to appreciate the subtle differences between tinder, kindling, and firewood. She'll light a fire then immediately walk away and let it go out. Wash, rinse, spin, repeat.

No. As matter of fact that was first question I asked her. How much lighter wood you use. She smiled said 2 pieces. I was like I taught you well. I have found the mother lode of started wood. I made 5 milk crates of it with the splitter Friday. It’s a prime stump.
