It’s a long read but hard to make some of these stories short lol.

This was my second year and first full season running a tracking dog. I had thought our tracking season was over but I had a buddy call Wednesday around lunch. A guy he worked with shot a buck Tuesday around 5:15 and said they had tracked blood for over a mile until there lights died and He asked if I would come help them that afternoon. We arrive about 3:45 and walk to where they lost blood and I put Shiloh on it and turned her loose. She was having trouble at first. She would hit a line and go 100 yards or so then kind of lose it so I would have to push her on through it. She got to the creek where I found a couple small pieces of meat. She continues on out of sight and I’m watching the tracker and she gets to about 90 yards and stops. I thought she had found it so we head that way and she had found a doe that had been dead several days. Not knowing if she would keep going back to the doe or not I take her back to the pieces of meat and start her again. She eases around and is slowly straightening it out. We are all standing there talking when out of nowhere she fell bayed 180 yards down the creek. We get to it and I’m able to put it down, 24 hours after the initial shot and it was still very alive. It had been shot about as low as you can get just in front of the front leg. I was as happy as I could be and was glad to be able to end the season on a high note. Well about 8 the phone rings. A guy pretty local said his wife had shot a buck straight on right at dark. They had tracked blood about 150 yards and lost blood in some pines. I knew the rain was coming in so I hurry over to help them. We get to the blood and Shiloh was searching a lot where the hunters had already been and finally gets pass that and gets to the clean track. We continue on and come out on a powerline. Me and the man are finding a little blood and following it not paying much attention. I hear Shiloh open up again and quickly had the buck bayed 3/4 mile in. On my map it shows she’s right off of a small road so we get the father-in-law to pick us up on the side by side and drive us around. I have him stop about 200 yards back and I ease in the truth and put the buck down. I get to within 30 yards of them and can see the deer when it takes off(should’ve knew right on the road was too easy). She runs it off to to the bottom about 200 more yards and has it bayed again. This time I’m able to get close enough to safely put the buck down and make the hunters night. We finally got this one out and I rolled back home a little after 1 in the morning. Work was a little tough but I wouldn’t trade it for nothing. Glad to be able to help hunters out and thankful we made it through 2 pretty alive deer without any injuries.

You really should start a reality show. The places you go and folks you meet. People from California and New York would pay big money to watch and giggle.
