Looks like a mallard/black cross. My son killed one in Oklahoma that is beautiful. He is getting it mounted.

Look at the bill, it is a really old mallard hen. When they get old, some hens will start to produce testosterone which will cause them to produce drake traits. The more testosterone that they produce, the more they will look like a drake but their bill always gives them away.

Yeah the bill is why is thought gadwall hen.

I killed a Muscovy mallard cross flying with a bunch mallards. It had white under wings and called it for a black duck. Until the dog brought it back. I bet it weighed 4 lbs. I saw JD that morning and asked him what it was. He said it’d count as a dead one. LOL.

A friend killed a pintail mallard cross really cool bird. The curls were half as long pins. The wings were speculum was pintail and the head was a chocolate green color. The bill had the blue steel sides and olive top.

100% old hen mallard! After they get so old they stop producing their female bodily chemicals and will start taking on male attributes! Not extremely uncommon but still pretty rare enough to call a trophy!

My brother killed a mallard-black duck cross. It had a green streak on its head. Very pretty duck.
