Meant to put this out weeks ago when I heard guys on here talking about a long drag - and all of you guys may have a drag system - but I still see guys grab base of horns and start dragging. If u still grab horns or feet to drag - u may want to consider this. I hav a Glenn’s deer handle I got 10-15 years ago - lot better than grabbing horns - gives you leverage and you can stand more upright. I actually loaded 2 deer this year 175 and 180 plus pounds in back of truck by myself that would hav been
Much harder and maybe not possible without the drag. Still not easy dragging - but lot better than grabbing horns.
You can google Glenn’s deer handle - think they out of MS - use to be only around $12-14 - it has a ski rope handle basically

I usually put a dog leash around the neck. I'm sure there are things that work better, but I usually have that with me anyway. It helps a lot to be able to stand up more strait, and have a better grip.

We replace the ratchet straps on our ladders every year. Some of them are the 10 or 12 footers and have a lot of tag end. I'll cut 4-5' off and throw in my backpack. Loop knot tied on each end, wrap around horns/neck and thru loop. Just like you said, more upright and a handle to hold onto.

The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

I cut the leg area like I am going to hang him to gut, I run a rope through both legs and out to me, I wind the rope up on a sturdy stick, then I put the stick horizontal to my waist and start walking.

I drag them by the antlers, if it’s a short, easy drag. If your drag is a long distance or over difficult terrain, it’s way easier for me to quarter them up and pack them out.

👍 - I have grabbed most of mine by the horns - saw this 10 or more years ago and saw guy doing it easier than I do by grabbing horns so I got it - glad I did

Whatever works for u guys - thought could be easier if u did not hav some kind of drag system already

I keep a short piece of rope with a carabiner on each end. I loop one end around its neck and the other gets clipped to a loop on the back of my safety harness. Keeps hands free and cuts down on fatigue.

Rear or front legs?

I have seen this done and it seemed to work really well. It might be worth buying a harness just so I can use it for dragging. Or maybe there is one buried in the basement somewhere.

That’s a dang good idea for a harness and hook drag to that - that would be the most powerful and comfortable position

I use a 2’ long piece of hickory with about a 4’ piece of rope. Tie rope in the center of the hickory stick and the other end around the antlers or neck of the deer. Cheap and very effective.

It takes two people to make this work, but cut a pole study enough to hold the weight, but not too big, tie the deer's legs and head to it and carry it out on your shoulders.

I don't care for dragging backwards. The hair creates too much resistance.

The suspension relief strap that came with my HSS safety harness doubles as a deer drag. It has a small carabiner at one end and I just connect it to the loop on the back of the harness. Works great.

Since I was a kid, we’ve always cut their legs, and put a stick through their legs to drag them. I have an axe handle in my truck and in my ranger that I use now. I load them with it too. Put one end on the tailgate, climb in and pull them up. Those 175+ are getting harder to load the older I get........
