Thankfully have never needed one but I understand most work for tips only. How much do you guys tip them? I would imagine $100 or more would be appropriate due to them having to respond at a moments notice, gas costs, etc. Maybe more for a tough track. Whatdya say?

I’m sure they take it all. Most folks won’t take cash planning on tipping for a dog.

I had no idea what to pay and never expected him to say he works off donations and if I would not hav had dead deer each time I would not hav paid as much

Art Powers out of Selma - dog was great - he had to travel hour first time and prob 80 miles second - first track hard - second we could hav found by ourselves - huge blood trail but my son needed his fist pump moment badly and I was trying to ensure success
$200 first track
$225 second

Ya, my thinking also.
It's rare I have $20 let alone enough to provide an adequate payment.

I don’t carry a lot of cash usually. Idaho Mike found my biggest, at the time, 4-5 years ago. My dad and I scraped up all they cash on us and I paid my dad back. I think it was around $140. If we would’ve had more, I would’ve kept giving.

It ain't just plum about the money if I end up Feb 11 with enough to cover my vet bills, dog food and buy a lil gas I'm good. And knowing I helped a hunter be successful that may or may not have turned out good without the dog I'm happy. And recovered a animal that would otherwise go to waste or feed a mangy coyote.

I called a guy out a week and a half or so ago. I shot a big buck, didn’t feel great about the shot. ( next day I found my scope out of whack). Shot the gun prior to season and into season and it was fine. Don’t know what happened.

Either way, I called the guy about coming the next day, he offered and wanted to come that night. At 9pm we started the track.. at 330am, 3 miles later and after hiking from the very top of skyline to the bottom of the Mtn, we called it quits and was back at the truck. I was super impressed with the dog, but unfortunately we didn’t recover the deer. After finding the first few pools of blood within a hundred yards of the shot, I would have guaranteed the deer be dead.

I handed the guy 200 and felt like a bum only paying him that. It was all I had on me.

A man could offer me 3k cash right now to go to our property tonight. Start at 9pm, track across a few creeks, across a road, across our whole property, across the neighbors property, drop over 1k feet of elevation through bluff country and limestone rocks (all while the fog set in as thick as could be) and turn around and walk back to the truck.....and I would tell them to shove that money.

He said normally he charges 75, but I couldn’t make myself short him like that.

I’ll tell you this though, he and his dog sure did seem to enjoy every minute of the agony we went through. LOL

Brad Whitmire is his name and I would recommend him to anyone ever needing a dog.

150 and enjoyed watching the dog go to work. I’ve recommended him to two other guys in our club and so far he’s 3 for 3

My sons first buck I called a dog because of a high shot, dog showed up at 9, deer was on the back of the keep by 9:45. Tracker told me no charge just glad he can help and I insisted to pay him, he wouldn’t take the money because he said his dog was young . I walked over and stuck a 50 in his seat of his truck, while he was loading the dog. Would have have whatever he wanted

I've called one. Told me if they didn't find the deer I wouldn't owe them anything. Didn't find it.

I always keep at least a couple of hundred in the ashtray of the truck during deer season just in case I need it. How much the tracker gets is dependent on the track.

Art Powers told me on the 17th of Jan on our last track together - that was his 88th track this season. Not sure what is standard - but that sounds like a heck of a lot
Super nice guy - real neat to see dogs work - hope I don’t need him again but would recommend him and will call him again if I hav to track one - i would rather see deer drop straight down after shot

I called a dog (Woodrow) year before last Christmas night. I had tracked the deer over a 1/4 mile and just run out of blood. He met me about 10:00 -11:00 drove to the club. Found the deer about 12:30-1:00 am. He help me drag the deer a long way up to a road we could get to. Was the biggest deer I have ever killed by far. I gave the guy $300 and felt like it was a deal.

I also do not understand grown men walking around with no cash on them at all. I will usually always have at least a couple hundred $$ on me and more at home if I need it.

Just depends, if it's a really impressive track sometimes people tip pretty good. Had a guy make me take 200 today. I've got a big vet bill coming in the morning though. Just really hoping Muzz doesn't have a broke leg

If I didn’t make a good shot and need a dog I’m going to pay the man graciously. I owe it to the deer, the dog and the tracker. Glad that y’all feel the same way.

As far as Skyline goes, I damn near died from exhaustion just from inspecting buildings on flat ground. lol

Man i dunno, i don't hear of many woman calling in tracking dogs

Hell my first track not for the family was for a woman at the feed store.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

What happened?

The deer pinned him up against a barbed wire fence and gored him pretty bad. He won't put any weight on one back leg and his other back foot is swelling up bad. I gave him some pain medicine and meloxicam to hold him off till morning

Thanks, its been a rough weekend. Tracked 3, never caught up with one and bayed the other 2 a couple times. Good thing is my catahoula pup started opening and baying this weekend finally. Its awesome to watch the switch flip for the first time on a dog

If I cant find him on my own and he's good enough for me to call a dog, I'm giving at least $300.

I did 4 one day and I had to give Ada some rymadil shes getting older but I still run the piss out of her. It's me that takes a beating. Between quail hunting and deer tracking I'm happy when Turkey season rolls around. Don't get me wrong I love tracking deer probably more than hunting them.but man running through briers and swamps all night and day is exhausting.

It isn't necessary to see a good tackle...you can hear it.
