I know deer ain’t supposed to see it.
But I just hate orange when I’m hunting. I keep orange hat in my pack. Wear it walking in. But it comes off once in a treestand or an enclosed blind.
How about y’all?

I don't like it. I really don't think it keeps anyone any safer. The only hunting "accidents" I've known of would not have been mitigated by orange.

This ^^^^. Movement will bust your butt long before hunter orange will.

I wear in when I am on the ground and remove it once I get elevated. Doesn't bother the deer. Movement and scent are more important factors than whether I am wearing orange or not.

Why do you, and welcome others to answer, do not like wearing an orange hat and/or vest? Just don't like any hats, afraid an orange hat will make folks think you might be an Auburn or Clemson fan, messes up your hair, is there a valid reason not to wear an orange cap?

I wear it when I'm supposed to but usually take it off when legal. I get tired of wearing a cap and also there are several animals that can see orange that I'm trying not to alert.

I don't mind wearing a orange hat, like I was required to in Alabama. Here in Missouri I have to wear a orange hat and vest during the firearms season even if I am in my shooting house in the middle of a 300 acre field on private property. GW comes up to the shooting house and I do not have it on, I get ticketed.

I don’t mind wearing orange to and from the stand. Im not a big fan of getting shot.

I usually always just put it on my tree when I hunt. Not concerned so much about getting shot up there as much as just making it a bit easier for someone to find me if I take a tumble or something. As a side benefit, if someone is walking in, They usually catch sight of the orange and turn around before the completely blow my spot.

Orange does not scare the deer and it 100% makes you visible to other hunters. In some of the Northern states even if it wasn't required I'd wear it because there are some real dumb ones packing a gun. Here during the deer/elk gun seasons it's not required but I will not go tromping around without an orange hat. Same thing, DUMMIES everywhere. This all refers to public land by the way. The guys here will run over you to get to a legal bul lol.

There is a bit more if you keep reading - "A small logo and/or printing is permitted on the front of
hunter orange caps; otherwise, hunter orange must be of solid color and visible from any angle. Only hunter orange, commonly called blaze
orange, ten mile cloth, etc., is legal. " Nothing is said about the bill of the cap.

Given the lack of common sense a lot of folks have now days, I have no problem wearing plenty of orange.
Also, some people just can't see very well. You never know who or what kind of person you're sharing the woods with.

If you dont include the bill of the hat (being orange) you will not meet the 144 square inches requirement.

Unless you are wearing a dunce style hat. Which I would not recommend. It will keep getting knocked off by low hanging branches and vines.

Deer see blue spectrum the way we see the red spectrum. The orange stands out to us as awful in the woods or in a stadium (Tn, Aub, Clem), the way blue spectrum. Deer are more tuned into movement than anything.

Unfortunately there are alot of idiots that will shoot at movement. You can see orange along way through the woods so why anybody wouldn`t wear it while walking In the woods is beyond me. In MS we have to wear 500 square inches of solid unbroken orange. I simply take it off or cover it up when I get into the stand.

I don’t wear it mainly because I hunt around turkeys. When they see it, they’ll alert everything within a mile!

I don’t wear hats. Never liked wearing hats. I have left my orange hat in the truck so many times I can’t count. So now I have one clipped to the outside of my pack.

Honestly am surprised we haven't gone to 500 sq inches here since the Powers That Be have decided we needed official shooting times for our own safety.

Some Aunt Bea Karen is going to mandate orange vests and caps here someday. It'll happen. Only a matter of time.

As for orange, deer see it as gray. What they see is movement. Our fathers and grandfathers didn't have MossyTreeBark camouflage. They sat still and killed deer. Hunters up north wore red- and green-black checked coats and hats, and killed deer. Quit fidgeting and moving around.

My thoughts are, I should be able to wear whatever I want to on my property.

I’ve been dead still and had deer walk up and look at me with orange on. They may be color blind but they can see it, and it stands out somehow. Imo
I wear it anyway. Flashlights at dawn and dusk should be a rule to keep people safe. Walking in and walking out is more dangerous to me.

I wear the heck out of it on public land, hat and vest. I think it’s obvious by now that it doesn’t bother deer, and I really ain’t worried about getting shot at by anyone, I like to be as visible as possible to other hunters though if they start walking in on me or vice versa, so I can flag them down or they can flag me down before we walk right up on each other.

Now on private property, especially that you own, I don’t think it’s necessary and don’t think it should be mandatory.

Use to never wear it especially on our own land ; then we've had tree stands stole , find tracks where folks have walked across our farm , heard shots at dark . Never know who's out there . I want to be seen and don't want to be a headline .

I wear it until I am out of site of the public road. Then I either reverse my hat or stick it I’m my coat pocket. Pisses me off every time I put it on to walk in on my own property. If I get shot, it will be by someone who was not supposed to be there in the first place.

I think you're a lot less likely to be "scoped" by someone if you have it on

Nothing is said about the bill of the cap.

Actually it is, it says full size hunter orange hat, that's including the bill...

That's the reason I wear it, even on my own property and my lease. I ain't worried about the folks that are supposed to be there, they know where I'm hunting and how I'm going to and from there. Coming out after dark I always turn on my cap light or a flashlight.

I wear it every second I’m hunting. I think it has more to do with folks being told they have to wear it. Like seatbelts. Or game check. I’ve had turkeys walk by me with orange on during deer season and never check up.

I don't even think about wearing it. Orange cap goes on my head when I get my gear on at the truck, comes off my head when I load back into the truck. Pretty easy. I hunt a lot of clear cut and I can easily see onto the neighbors properties surrounding me. I'd much rather be a bobbing bright orange hat than an unidentifiable brown blob to someone who may be hunting near a line.

If not elevated or in a blind I wear it. I am a firm believer that an orange hat does not bother deer. A full fledged vest may be a different story. In my opinion if a hat and vest were required, the vest should be allowed to have some type of a broken pattern. Thinking I am standing out like a sore thumb bothers me, but I have had a many of deer within 40 yards in all hours of the day and the orange hat didn't affect them.

Had an uncle who wore blaze orange coveralls and killed as many as anybody. I wear an orange hat when I am at the farm whether I'm hunting, filling feeders or just riding the gator. If somebody shoots at me and hits me with a rifle it probably isn't gonna matter if my name is on the deed or not.
