It’s a slow morning here (unexpectedly, I might add).
Just sent a good buddy this message:

I just peed out the back window of this blind.
You can have a long discussion among deer hunters about pee.
Two basic theologies though.
1. Pee is pee and people pee not much different than deer, fox, coyote etc.
2. Never, ever pee in your hunting area. You’ll ruin it.

What are your thoughts on pee? I don’t pee a lot in my hunting area but I don’t get to hurting either.

Doesn't bother deer where I hunt. Hell, I don't really see anything until after I've pissed and smoked a cigarette.

Not completely sure - I was always told by old time hunters - doing it would ruin area - I hav also had to go bad and gone a couple of times and my area did not appear to get ruined - I still try not to do it and many times hav always had pee bottle w me

Some of those same people taught me that bucks are the only ones w due claws so now I am not sure on either 😀

Since pee deals w sent - I will say this and it’s not the same thing - I hav had my son leave like a set of gloves r head net in blind and went from seeing Ton of deer to no deer - not same - but when u do that - someone is basically hunting 24-7 cause human sent there
Also - when I hunted clubs - folks would leave open bags of chips - open bag of twinky etc in shoot house - I can’t prove that hurts but I would not advise doing that - bucks probably don’t like Doritos like me and u do - not normal

If I have to piss, I piss. Everything in the woods pisses in the woods. I will never tote around my pee for a pine goat.

Pee out the tree

Pee doesn’t bother deer. If so, they wouldn’t sell pee as cover scent

Reading through this gives me the urge to pee. Excuse me for a minute.

The real question is which is worse:

1. Really quiet morning where your pee falling 20 feet sounds like a jackhammer echoing through the woods

2. Windy morning where pee gets blown back all over your boots and lower pants leg.

Really good technique when acorns are falling in the fall.

Never pee into the wind.

I let it rain from my stand. The only problem is it’s loud on a crisp morning. I usually aim for a branch so that it gently runs down another tree or aim for a soft pile of leaves. I peed from my climber yesterday and trail cam pics from that time up to now show that deer paid zero attention to it.

Years ago I went to a hunting trade show in Mobile and Dr Deer was there giving a seminar and the question of peeing from your stand came up, he said let it fly. Hell i’ll piss in scrapes just to piss em off and the deer have come back to it.

Easier said than done trying to stand in a little clamp on.

Milos 20 oz. tea bottle is the answer for me.

Stays in my pack all the time.

Big, open top.

Don't have to worry about missing the opening.

I usually eat asparagus before hand to help cover my pee scent

Let it fly, don't bother them at all. I ain't ever carried a bottle of piss and never will.

I know that if you pee on the same small planted pine tree 3-4 times a morning when hunting that tripod for 3yrs it will make that pine tree grow crooked. I can go to that tree today and it will have a 90deg turn to the north and another turn upwards. Just a bit of useless information.

Old timers at an old club use to make a septic tank out of a five gallon bucket with a relief tube and funnel in their hut.

I do not try to leave it at a stand, I take an open mouth bottle in with me and seal it and put in a gallon size baggy for added protection of leaking. I try to leave as little of my scent as possible at a stand.

I don`t piss in the woods. Does it bother deer, I have no clue. I carry a piss bottle and a spit bottle. I try not to leave any more scent than absolutely necessary. Piss out the tree if you want, don`t if you don`t want to. Now if I gotta chit, that`s entirely different.

Yeah Ill pee from a tree. Im more worried about the noise than the scent. Ive had deer walk under me minutes later though like they are coming to see what the racket they heard was.

Doesn't matter. Whiz away. If a deer comes by it will investigate, sniff, mosey along. So will coyotes and other critters. Doesn't matter, doesn't have to be toted out in a bottle, doesn't spook them, doesn't run them into the next county forever.

I fart in an old yoo-hoo bottle I bring, then cap it pretty fast.

Always pee in the same spot that you can see from your stand before you get in it .

I try to pee before getting in the woods. I keep wide mouth Gatorade bottles in the shooting house. In a climber or ladder I just let it go.

Luckily, I can pee wherever I want. Got to be careful peeing off the front porch, but it’s doable. Now the back yard is wide open, I am like an old Tom Cat marking my territory.

Pee is pee. I’ve put a small pile of corn in front of a trail camera then peed on it to prove a point to my brother (he’s into ozonics and all that crap). Deer always start eating the corn same day/night. Done two piles piles next to each other, one with and one without, no preference they still hit both.

Many years ago, I decided and planned on an all day sit in the treestand. I sat all day and saw nothing. I had to go mid-day so I "sprayed" the bushes below. With about 15 minutes of daylight showing, 5 does came from the thick schitt I was eyein all day. They came out at about 45 degrees from me headed to somewhere. 2 or 3 of them turned and came directly to my tree, sniffed the bushes, then turned back and followed the others un-alarmed. Let er fly.

Never messed up a hunt for me.

I pee wherever the need arises. Don’t believe it affects anything.

I think I can honestly say that I never killed a deer where I hadn't peed out of the stand before I killed it. If I did, it was one of those quick 15 minute hunts. I drink well over a gallon of water a day. I pee freely and often.

I pee in scrapes all the time and cover them with leaves, they come back and uncover them.

The older we get, the more we pee from the stand.

Just installed urinals in boxes , pipe goes in ground beneath stand not sure about the smell messing up the hunt but if I pee a lot opening and closing doors is more problem in my opinion

I saw a youtube vid years ago and guy was dealing with "5 greatest myths" about deer hunting. Pissing where you were hunting was near top. He said that the smell dissipated about 20 min after you done the deed. Also, he said it depended on the ambient temp. Colder it was, longer it took smell to leave.

This post is so relateable. I was in woods Saturday afternoon and had to pee before climbing a tree. Did so and covered it up About an hour later small 4 point walked about 20 yards, down wind, from me. Never checked up just kept on moving.

If you do, you just might get pee all over your pull up rope and be hesitant to use it when time to come down.

Yes.

Urine isn't 100% sterile but it's not a bubbling goo of bacterial skin-eating kill-you acid, either. It dries. Nothing to worry about.

Years ago (like 15), I bought some Fox urine as cover scent. I put some out in the greenfield and climbed into my ladder stand early AM. The sun came up and a Fox came in down wind and peed over it. Shortly there after a deer came into the greenfield downwind. I wanted to hunt but the wind was not right for that greenfield. Somehow that Fox knew it was Fox urine.

I pee in a bottle, although I did hunt as a guest on some land near Childersburg and I got up to pee and while pissing, downwind from me some does came out.

So who the heck knows.

This subject came up on an outfitter hunt in Ohio. I said I always pee and the guide agreed. My buddy was very much against it. Next day - cold morning - I peed out of my stand and had two does come lick the frozen urine off the leaves of a bush below me. Same morning my buddy dropped his industrial size, complete full backpack with his urine bottle in it and it busted. He pees out of his stand now.

I pee when i got to pee... tree, climber, shooting house...A couple of the guys i hunt with actually piss in there coffee canisters during the morning, bring them out and dump......NO THANKS.
