Fished hard yesterday above scottsboro only caught 3 keepers but seen thousands on graph schooled up in deep water. May need to go old school with egg weight crappie rigs anybody try that? I saw 2 guys running nets in mud creek I thought they weren’t legal anymore. If they stay there when the weather breaks they will be wound up in about a dozen trolling motors if there is half the people there was last year

I don't know what those fish schooled up deep are, but they aren't crappie. I've seen em up there since before Christmas. I think they're gizzard shad. Crappie fishing this winter has sucked on the Big G, for me and my running buddies anyway.

Folks are pissed about those nets. It’s been all over the FB crappie page and fishing LG page.

I think so, but for commercial fishermen only.

Kyles, Could those fish be white bass? We were fishing at Eufaula and got into a pile of white bass 1/2 pounders plus. Most weren't big enough to fillet, so we just kept the biggest ones. Not bad eating either. As far as the netting goes, those Trammel nets are usually folks catching sucker's this time of year. Some of the ol'timers actually like them and know a way to fix them, they are fairly good just a lot of work to prepare. If they are legal they have just as much the right to use them as everyone else to catch a bass or crappie. Not an easy way to fish if you ever cleaned the trash out of a net, but they usually catch some good suckers up those creeks.

I found some deep fish in the intake below town creek and they ended up being white stripe. The nets were out in the main lake but it was a miserable rainy day and they were the only other boat i saw.You arent even allowed to keep crappie or even bluegill caught in a cast net if you are trying to get shad.I dont own one but i was told that by a guy the game warden had checked. My theory on the crappie is they will move on in when the water comes up.Back in the seventies i hung into a net with a rattle trap in the back way coming out of goosepond campground going out to the river. When i lifted it up to get it out i have never seen so many big bass.A lot of them were already dead too.
