The boys and I ran across 4 of these trees blown down in the creek bottom while running a trap line. We believe it is a white oak, but some of the bark looked like a post oak. The landowner said that we can get all 4 of them to cut on our sawmill when it is finally delivered in a few months. Also, excited to check the traps before church in the morning. Jeremy

If you see a post oak that big you've got a record book tree We've got some really large post oaks around here. I don't know if we've got any as tall as the one in the photo but we've got some larger in diameter.

Good to see it go to use.
Normally for loner trees like that, they just lay there thinking about their "good o'l days" when they stood high and mighty!
Make sure to post up pics of the mill and the process of cutting up the tress and thre finished product please!!

White Oak, AKA Stave Oak , That one actually looks good enough to make staves for whiskey barrels . A load of those at the Stevenson stave mill would yield a good payday. My advice would be practice with a few poplar or gum on your mill before tackling those white oak. Don't wanta make a mess out of those premium logs.

White oak, don't know if it's the dry weather we've had 2 out of the last 5 years or disease but we have lost several nice ones this past year . A lot of good acorns gone !

Is it to big for your mill? Reason I ask is my brother has two mills and anything over a certain size is just too big. Since it's already down you may as well cut out a section you can use. Just something to think about before you work it up and find out it's too much for the mill. You may have a huge mill on the way and it is of no concern.

My brother in law has a pretty big mill that can handle the larger pieces. Jeremy
