Alabama has a national championship (since the 1920's) in all except 2 decades, Auburn has 2 period. If you all keep this up, your next championship will show up in 2,067. Alabama's championships prior to 1950 were little more than the propaganda brainstorm of Wayne Atcheson, who ran the Sports Information Department at UA for years. Wayne was a wonderful person and consumate professional. But his job was to promote UA and create ways to get positive attention. Even he admitted that after scouring the record books and seeing all those "championships" in the early part of the 1900s there wasn't any reason to not claim them.
Voila. Upteen national titles. Unlike basketball, for example, where there's been a legitimate conference and national tournament for decades, football relied on eye candy and final polls by idiot sportswriters often swayed by regional and/or personal bias and influence from sports information directors.
Those are facts, too. Not whining or Lil' Brothering or anything else. Remove all that mythical crap and Bama still has a dozen or 13, which gets no argement whatsoever. I'd give them the best chance to win it again this year, too.

Except Bama is widely regarded as the team that put Southern football on the map and actually got their name and fight song from the writer’s descriptions of the team taking the field in the 1925 Rose Bowl by winning an outright national championship. I understand a lot of people don’t like the 41 claim, hell I don’t but let’s not act like 66 wasn’t ours. If Alabama actually claimed every championship that we’ve been awarded by the pollsters we would actually have 23, but we stick with the modest 18. Now that is fact. Go look it up!!
