Hi All, I am curious if anyone has any recent experience hunting squirrels in WMAs. I'm thinking of trying Hollins WMA soon and aside from checking in/out on the app, I'm curious about any other procedures or etiquette I should be aware of. Never hunted in a WMA or public land for that matter and want to make sure I am following laws and guidelines. Thanks in advance!

I did wheeler a time or two. Just look at the WMA map and it should list all the rules you need to know.
I ran across a few different parties doing the same when I went. I didn’t see anyone who had much luck, but everyone I spoke to was respectful and good people.

For the sake of public land etiquette, I would make sure there is no deer hunting going on at the property simultaneously. WMA's tend to close small game at this time, but that isn't always the case, especially during bow season.

That decision is really up to you though. Public land is just as much yours as it is mine. I just felt guilty one time when I was new to public land hunting and walked right through a bow hunters spot while I was squirrel hunting.

And take extra precaution if it's deer rifle season on public land!!! The vast majority of hunters I've ran into on public land are upstanding citizens and ethical hunters, but some of them are drunk and ready to mag dump their AR into anything moving in the brush.

Choccolocco WMA is also a great place to hunt squirrels. There are some fox squirrels in the tall pines also.
