It's also the only caliber that has its own identity politics.

People either love or hate it.

But did you kill any skwerls with your pop gun?

If there were any places in North Al to shoot over 300-400 yards on a consistent basis, I'd strongly consider a 6mm Creedmoor for a paper/steel puncher. But for where I have to shoot a 223 and 308 do just fine. My daughter has a 6.5c and it's very accurate but realizing and utilizing it's true long range potential isn't a real possibility for me.

It’s not hate for me. It’s a great shooting caliber, but for what I do with a rifle, I prefer the 308 or 270. Before the ammo shortage, I would occasionally got to my buddy’s range and we’d do some long range shooting out to 600yds. The creedmoor was the rifle I’d shoot and was ideal for this. It’s just personal preference to hunt with the above mentioned rifles.

I guess it's just like referring to 308 as a generic designation when people really are talking about the .308 Win. Hardly anyone has actually seen a 308 Marlin Express and thus it is of little consequence.

By far, the 6.5 Creedmoor is currently the most popular of the caliber and thus has earned the same shorthand.

Midway USA list list the following for rifle ammo options for the various 6.5 cartridges. The 80 entries for the 6.5 Creedmoor is almost 1/2 of the total

6.5 Grendel (16)
6.5mm Carcano (1)
6.5x52mm Mannlicher-Carcano (2)
6.5x54mm Mannlicher-Schoenauer (1)
6.5 Creedmoor (80)
6.5 PRC (7)
6.5x47mm Lapua (4)
260 Remington (22)
6.5x55mm Swedish Mauser (19)
6.5x57mm Mauser (1)
6.5x57mm Rimmed (1)
6.5mm-284 Norma (7)
264 Winchester Magnum (6)
26 Nosler (5)
6.5-300 Weatherby Magnum (4)

If I ever refer to my .308 Marlin Express, I call it the 308mx. I also grab this rifle before the 6.5 creedmoor.

I am with you, marshmud, I have 18 deer rigs of too many different calibers, can't seem to part with any of them. But, the ol -06 is what is in my hands almost all of the time, and I spend a ton of time in the woods.

Exactly! It's what many of the Creedmoor carriers think they have.

Totally forgot about the 308 Norma. Midway has one entry ... $80.99 per box of 20, available and in stock. Quantity limit of 3 boxes.

The Creed doesn't need ammunition to kill.

Nope, I just point my Creed in the direction of my target and they fall over.

I hear out west they call it the Broke back Creedmoor and when you buy one it comes with tent and a free listing on Grinder. LOL! It truly is the Liberace of rifle cartridges.
