I understand that. I got a M77 Mark II with the skeleton stock in 270 that my dad gave me. It’s going to my son when he turns 16

Yep. A 7 mag will top 270 ballistics and exactly match it, depending on how the cartridge is hand loaded..

Rather have a 7 Mag but each to his own. Never saw the need for a 270 but I guess a lot of people like them.
Got a 30 06 I would never get rid of. I. Had a 264 Winchester Mag I sold that I wish I had back. It would hang with the creedmore and pretty close to a 257 Weatherby mag. Which imho is the ultimate deer rifle.

.270 kicks like a mule. I nearly lost a filling last time I fired one off.

270 can kick and 30-06 is worse than that

My first deer rifle was an M77 .270. Killed most of my deer with it til I was almost 30 and started branching out a bit. I agree with .257! The .270, being a great cartridge is Easily beaten ballistically!! Not to say it is bad, nor to say you ever would need another cartridge to hunt with. But unbeatable it is not!

I find it very very hard to believe that the .270 has been removed from Rugers line up of rifles. However, times change and if they aren’t moving like they use to, maybe it is a good decision for them. I can promise you it is a business decision and maybe al the 6.5 and .30 calibers is the majority of what people are buying these days. You have to figure that the people who actually have and actually spend money on guns probably are buying more of the new calibers. They probably have all the .308, .30-06, and .270’s they need. Very interesting!

Hunting brings out the worst in people.

Somebody must like the .270. Can’t find a box of ammo for sale anywhere. Same for .243. I’ve been trying to find a couple boxes as a gift for our neighbor at the camp. Can’t find any also. Oh ya, I love my old 270.

You guys may not know this but O'Connor admitted later in life that he had hyped the 270 more than he should have
This comes from a guy whos has owned numerous 270's and still owns one

Try shooting my 7 mag. It’s not bad I love to hear it thunder at our range. I’ve got all calibers. 06 is still my favorite.
