For all you guys who use summit climbers, how often do you replace your cables? Been climbing this year a lot more than in the past and was curious to when I should do it. I never leave my climber in the weather, I pack it in to hunt and pack it out.

I’ve got two Summit climbers both at least 15 years old. I have never replaced the cables. I have replaced the rubber coating on each at least once and when I pulled all the old rubber coating off, I inspected the condition of the cables and didn’t have any rust. Like you, I never leave my climbers in the woods.

I replace the shrink every year. I remove it, clean the rust off the steel cable with naval jelly, replace it. I've been using the original cables on 2 climbers for 7 years

I don't want to pass quietly into the night. I want to slide in sideways kickin and screamin

Well I’m tall and large framed and use the Goliath
Being so close to the weight limit I replace mine
Every year . Cables are cheap compared to my
Life ,,,, when I was smaller weight and used the
Viper I swapped every other year .
They may last a lifetime . I’m not gonna find out.
Just one opinion of many .

Every day's a gift !

I just replaced mine. They were 10 to 15 years old and starting to rust a little

It was actually pretty easy. You can buy the shrink wrap from Summit but I think I got mine on eBay. As others have said, cut away the old wrap and inspect the cables then slide the new wrap on. The trick is shrinking it. You can use a heat gun which I don’t have or I just put mine in the oven. I believe it was 150 degrees for 30 minutes but you will for sure want to double check that. There is probably a You Tube video on it.
