I've turned down several folks this year that has contacted me wanting mounts done that did not have their confirmation number.
It's costing me business but I can't afford not to tell them no.
No way could I ever afford to pay the fine or penalty for not having the numbers.
I may do less deer mounts this year but it is what it is.
If it's in my shop I'll have the number.

Believe I was told it’s $150 per violation. I could be wrong though.

I honestly believe for the 2020-2021 season that Chuck is going to be way off on his 30% compliance theory.
The only way I see a fella being able to get around the game check system now and not checking a deer is if he processes the deer himself and doesn't take it to a processor or a taxidermist.
Requiring processors and taxidermist to collect the numbers this year has got to increase the rate of compliance in my opinion.

If it's in my shop I'll have the number. What info, if any, are you required to get if a guy brings you a clean skull plate and cape - from out of state, say Kentucky?

If it's in my shop I'll have the number. What info, if any, are you required to get if a guy brings you a clean skull plate and cape - from out of state, say Kentucky? This is the regulation: "Import prohibited deer parts: It is unlawful for persons hunting outside of Alabama to bring deer, elk, moose, caribou or any other cervidae carcasses, hides or antlers back to Alabama from any other location unless all meat has been deboned and skull plates and hides have been thoroughly cleaned of all brain and spinal cord tissue." Unless a skull plate and cape have been thoroughly cleaned, a taxidermist cannot take it if it was brought in from another state. If it was brought in from another state and it has been fully cleaned, then a taxidermist may take it and as far as I know no info or numbers are required because it is not an Alabama native deer. Someone who is "in the know" please correct me if I am wrong in this.

That last part is where I’m getting at. Keep some wet and dry tanned hides in inventory.........
