One of the many things that has become apparent in 60 years of life, is that some people just like to stir up stuff, like to push people's buttons, like to pick fights over little things. I've never fully understood the motivation. Some say that they do that because they live by certain principles. What I have seen is that they rarely apply the same principles to themselves that they apply to other people.

I have had several friends that are this way. A common theme with these people is that when they talk about every bad relationship, every job they've left, every bad business dealing, etc... it's ALWAYS the other person's fault. There's never this self realization that, "Well, maybe at least part of that was my fault..." Why can't we set the bar high for ourselves and cut everyone else some slack? After all everyone is human and imperfect in the eyes of God.

I think it was Dave Barry that once said, "If someone is nice to you, but an asshole to the waiter, they're an asshole."

If you are around someone makes a habit of talking crap about most everyone else or gossiping about stuff that you know was told told to them in confidence ... you know they are eventually talking crap about you and sharing things you told them that were in confidence. It’s just the way it is. I think a lot of men who keep their negative thoughts to the themselves and I never hear sharing gossip. Not many of them.

I tell my 20 yr old every time I hear him make an excuse about something, you’re not a man unless you can take responsibility for your own actions.
I make mistakes all the time, just try to learn from them and own them.

It is just like a guy I knew, who was always having family problems. I asked him what the common denominator in all of them were?

That's nice of you to say, but I don't think of it as words of wisdom, more like an observation I have made countless times.

I can't remember where I heard this quote, but it's along the same lines...

"If you wake up and everyone you meet is an asshole, maybe you're the asshole."

Exactly.

A very good friend of mine told me one day. “You have two choices when you wake up in the morning, are you going to be an a$$hole, or a nice guy”. It’s stuck with me 😉
