Idk any of the real details, but the guy campaigned on prosecuting the kkk like he single handedly took the whole organization down. It was actually the guy at SPLC that did it.

Most reasonable people assume the clan is bad. That’s why he touted his prosecution of them. I think Jones prosecuted old men to elevate his political position, and his campaign capitalized on that idea. So no, we don’t need to take Jones out of it.

If a group of men show up at a drunk wife beaters house one night and persuade that man to give up drinking and quit beating his wife. I bet you dollars to donuts the wife would say that group of men were good guys. That don't get talked about though. It's all about killing little colored children. There's mean people in any group of people. That does not make everyone in the group mean or evil, nor does it make the whole group an evil group. Again, I have no opinion on the matter. I’m no KKK supporter but I’ll give you a few examples

I grew up in an area where blacks weren’t local residents. Klan was there, they had charity fundraising alongside Shriners back in the day. I knew of a couple occasions where men liked to drink and chase strange women instead of take care of their family, men from the local chapter might come visit and explain the finer points of being a husband and father, you know, being responsible in a life changing way.

In many areas or chapters evil men committed atrocities that never should have happened, no person should ever be judged by anything other than character. No person should be tortured or killed based on skin color or who they chose to sleep with but a group of men with strong morals and willingness to hold others accountable ain’t a bad idea, until it’s misused and it always gets misused eventually.
In my opinion the klan started as a hate group and even though some instances of klan activities weren’t race related, or even bad the good a few may have done will never overcome the atrocities some committed

He didn’t bring down the kkk, they were brought down a decade or two earlier.

My father represented Blanton long before he was charged with the bombing. Doug wanted them to plead guilty to a federal explosive charge and if so, he would be able to tell everyone he was responsible for bringing them to justice. My dad recommended Blanton take the deal and serve very minor time. He told my dad no way he would plead to a case where the statute of limitations had run decades before and that there was no way a jury would convict him. When he was charged with the murder, my dad withdrew from representing him.

By the way, he was guilty of the bombing. He bragged about it for years and told my father that he did it and laughed when he said he was going to get away with it.

I think Blanton and Cherry were just straight railroaded. Cash and Chambliss I don’t believe we’re innocent at all. Chambliss was convicted in the late 70’s early 80’s of participation and Cash never was tried having died before dougs circus days.

Cherry was one mean old prick. But, I don’t think he was involved at all.

Character matters. Make of that what you will. 98% of legal counsel makes the decent ones look really bad. Defense counsel are generally the worst of the bunch.

I will say that the guy who called him a bragger believing his own lies was over heard ( by people I very much believe and who were very shocked to discover how little they knew about their father) asking God for forgiveness for his indirect part in the act
On his death bed and that he was a police officer in a nearby city back when it happened.
