I picked up a Weatherby Vanguard in 6.5 Creedmoor. I’m interested in hearing what factory ammunition that those who are deer hunting with it are shooting? Performance you’ve experienced?

I like the Hornady 129 grain SST. They shoot good and do pretty good on deer.

I’ve read a lot of good things about the 143 ELD Precision Hunter load. I’m going to start with it.

I've also got a T3X Superlite in 6.5Creedmoor and it's a great rifle.

For ammo I've had a success with Federal Fusion and Hornady Precision Hunter.

Said it before and I’ll say it again ..... there’s something about that 143gr ELD-X that just works in every single 6.5mm rifle I’ve seen it loaded in from .260Rem - 6.5CM - 6.5x55 - .264WM - 26Nosler. I really do think Hornady put some magic voodoo in those bullets.

To be honest, I haven't fed either of the 6.5CM's I've owned anything that they *didn't* like. Both have shot very well with everything I put through them.

Have two Wetherby Vanguard for the grandkids. Both shoot them good. Worked very good on deer and pig's also.

Actually, I’ve have the 147 ELD-M be more emphatic than the X or the Hornady 129s. I realize they’re ‘match’ bullets, but they’re cup and core, the creedmoor doesn’t drive them THAT fast, and deer anatomy isn’t THAT tough. I haven’t gotten great expansion from the Hornady and ELDX at extended range (>200), and I’ve yet to not get an exit from broadside or quartering with the ELDM, from 30 feet to 370 yards, and expansion, damage, and impact time to hit the dirt time has been far better

I was within $50 of buying a Ruger American 6.5 CM Saturday. I sure liked the feel of that gun BUT the ammo choices they had sucked bad. Trying to find any online is wasted time, LOL.

I did have a discussion with a friend. He said that the 6.5 CM is too hot of a round here in AL to do any good. He has had mostly pass through shots with them running off a ways. I told him my Son's 260 has shot a lot of deer and very few, with a good shot placement. has ran off. Still, got me a little hesitant about the 6.5 CM but reading from above, there are some decently heavy bullets available. I still may go back and get that Ruger...........................................

Your friend doesn't know what he's talking about. The 6.5CM is far from being a "hot" round. The lightest factory loaded bullets barely break 3000fps...and that's Hornady's Superformance loads. Most are in the 2700-2900fps range.

The only thing hot about the 6.5 Creed is the “hype”. It’s a good round but nothing special.

Eh, it’s more about efficiency.....power vs recoil vs powder burn vs range vs factory offerings, etc. It’s been set up for being the best it can be in tons of offerings, from day one. Not much tweaking needed at all. It can outperform most 243/260/308, in some way or another, with less recoil, blast, or such. I’m not saying it’s ‘best’, and I still like other stuff as much or more.....but for an off-the-shelf, kid to grownup, hunting rifle round, it’s tough to beat for return on investment.

HAHAHA wow, safe to assume your buddy isn't an engineer.
People kill deer every year with anything from small 60gr 223s, super hotrod magnums like 257wby at 3,500FPS+ and all the way up to big slow 45-70 and muzzleloaders.
If you're shooting a quality bullet and placing it correctly, you're going to be successful more often than not with a rifle.

It combines a lot of good characteristics into an easy to buy and easy to shoot package. I'm a fan but not naive to think it's something its not.
Is it any better or worse than 6.5X55 or 260? Nope, largely identical but unlike those two you're presented with a dozen 6.5Creedmoor offerings at Academy during normal times.

Maybe your buddy is shooting them with the wrong bullets. I’ve seen them (and most other stuff) kill like lightning when hit in the right place with the right bullet.

Not sure what's worse...the 6.5CM fanboys or the 6.5CM haters.

Both are comical and just sitting on the edge of being triggered at the mere mention of the caliber.

With the Creed - you don't actually need ammo. Just put the deer in the crosshairs and dry fire the rifle. The animal will drop in it's tracks.
