depends on a ton of factors. You should be fine with a good 7 footer. Action of rod and blank type (fast action, etc) makes all the difference in the world (not all UL rods are created equal and the more expensive ones, built with good blanks and quality components far exceed the cheap at casting distance and is a clear example of you get what you pay for). Is the spool on the reel completely full or is it an 1/8 to a 1/4 inch below the lip (casting distance is directly proportional to spool fullness), what brand of line (cheap line is stiff and doesn't flow easily off the spool creating much the same effect as the cheap rod when it comes to casting distance). If you really want to maximize distance, spool it full up, smooth even with the lip of the spool, with a good, slick, 6lb braid and just use a mono leader. Going to braid will generally increase your casting distance by 15% on a spinning rod.

About 3 miles. I only have 10-15 size reels and could make that cast with a 1/32'nd jig with my set ups.

I use Stren Crappie mono, and to be clear I use 4 lb not 6lb. I missed that bit of info the first time around. Seriously though, you should be able to throw a 1/16 ounce jig a long, long way. Unless you're using that crappy Mr Crappie line.

I checked the spool and the line is low. I will respool with with Vicious 6lb panfish mono and test, currently has Mr Crappie 6lb. I have other reels spooled with Stren some with Mr Crappie, this should be a reasonable test. One thing I noticed is, the Vicious line is smaller diameter than the others and feels less stiff. Fur, Richard Gene use Mr Crappie line, seen it on the interwebs.

I think it's because it has so much memory that it keeps the curls in it which would make seeing a bite easier than it could with good line. I know he likes it, but it is not good line IMO, especially for distance casting. I'd say 6 lb Mr Crappy is about the same diameter as 8 lb of most any good line.

Trilene XL is a good line for longer casts. ^^^this. All I use if I’m fishing mono.

What happened to Big Game, dufus? All about application Perch. BG is fine on a baitcaster but it’s XL or braid only on the fairy whip. On spinning gear, XL will cast10-15% further than big game and braid will cast 15% further than the XL. Also the braid has zero memory and you don’t get the line twist on spinning gear that you do with mono.
