I have never used a holographic sight but am considering buying one. Any experience with these sights in general or these two products in particular? Any advice or input is appreciated. I am leaning toward this setup but I only know what the manufacturer says about them.

I had the xps-3 (basically the xps-2 but nvg capable or something like that)
I really didn’t like it and sold it after a few months.

If I was going to spend that type of money again, I’d just by an aim point micro or aim point pro.

Better yet, buy a vortex strikefire and pocket the extra 400$ that you’ll save.

Edit: If you want a magnified optic, but a dedicated 2x7 or something. I think the magnifier combo is more of a “jack of all trades, master of none”.

I have an eotech and a burris ar332. I prefer the burris

Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

I liked the concept of the magnifier because it can be removed if I need a fast target acquisition in a defensive situation. I would sometimes want some magnification for killing hogs so could attach it then. Is there anything in particular you did not like about it?

I didn’t like that I had to hit a button to power it on and off. I left it on a few times and then the battery was dead when I wanted to use it hunting. It was fun to shoot with, just didn’t like having to rely on a battery so much, especially when something like the aim point has a battery life of a billion years for nearly the same price.

I have an SBR with a vortex strikefire on it now because I was too cheap to buy a nice low powered scope for it but I plan on upgrading when I get some extra cash. I think a variable power scope is ideal because you’re not going to be aiming at threats within 25 yds in a defensive situation. You’re pretty much going to spray and pray. A Scope starts becoming useable just past that distance, but gives you the opportunity to reach out and touch something if needed.

Not saying the EOTech and magnifier wouldn’t work, I just think it’s not as efficient as a simple variable powered scope.

Good information. I must add that I pray the defensive aspect NEVER gets used for anything other than range time. The real every day purpose of the optics will be for killing hogs. I was originally looking at this but decided against it:

I’ve never checked that specific scope out, but it definitely looks pretty good.
If you’re still slightly concerned about using a scope for a defensive type situation, they make offset iron sights that you can add. It offsets them by 45degrees so all you have to do is tilt your rifle slightly to see down the sights.

I have that exact EOTech (including green reticle) on my main self defense "pistol". For self defense, it's unbeatable, IMO. Target acquisition with both eyes open is instant, zero parallax, and durability that is unrivaled by any other. I do not have the magnifier, as like I said, it's a self defense weapon.

For hunting, it is a poor choice, IMO.

They have been very difficult to find with the green reticle lately, so if that's what you have your heart set on, I'd suggest ordering soon. If you're not signed up for Optics Planet's texts, you can sign up and they'll send you a code for 10% off.

Call Sport Optics out of Louisiana before you order, though. They will beat that price by over $100 if they have them in stock....but having them in stock is most miss for them. Worth a shot.

Have you tried Google?

Quick target acquisition while maintaining both eyes open peripheral vision is why I was looking at the Eotech. I don't like red illumination but love the green on my Trijicons. It is starting to become clear that I need to either purchase two separate optics for this rifle and swap them out as needed, or purchase one and dedicate the purpose of this rifle to one function. A dual purpose rifle appears to mean sacrificing a bit for both purposes.

Well, I pulled the trigger on the Eotech AND a Trijicon Accupower 4-16x50, both with green illumination. Now I have to sell some stuff to pay for my new stuff. I'll be posting more stuff in the classifieds forum soon. Dang.

I have that same Eotech on a AR pistol with a short 7.5" barrel. It's my little fun gun and I love the Eotech on it!
