That there is a self-declared “Dr.Turkey” dictating the future of turkey management. A classic narcissist, Dr. Chamberlain dictates “fact” and revels in his created stardom. Wouldn’t surprise me if we see him on the today show. Have you ever seen a biologist seek the limelight like he does? What a world we live in.
Quack quack.

What's worse is someone who doesn't know squat about turkeys proclaiming to be the self appointed turkey doctor.

I've been hunting gobblers since '76. Does that make me an expert? Hell no, I'm an electrician
I don't have the answers, merely suggestions. All I know is that every time Chuck & Co revamp anything... the water just gets muddier...

Local/experiential knowledge is more difficult to collect and quantify and probably less sexy than to just have yourself a "turkey doctor."

If Obama had given me my appointment as National Turkey Czar we would have more turkeys running around than you can imagine. But alas, I didn't get the position. I am thinking of running for governor on a turkey hunting platform. My theme is gonna be "A turkey in every pot." The things that I will do will be unconstitutional and a huge waste of taxpayer money, but they are already doing those things and we get nothing for them. At least I could get us plenty of turkeys. You’ll win by a landslide!!

I have an honest suggestion that I believe would double the state’s turkey population in 5 years or less. The state should take that corn license money and fund a program to offer a 5 dollar bounty on coon and possum tails.

That would make too much sense though, they’ll never go for something that would actually help the turkey population

Don’t know if that would do anything for turkeys, but the roads would sure be clearer of splattered carcasses. Of course, possum farms might start popping up. And then too, people would be smuggling tails in from other states. Can’t see why if wouldn’t work...

The state should take that corn license money and fund a program to offer a 5 dollar bounty on coon and possum tails. You are way behind. A bounty on all turkey eating critters was a key point of my plan as Turkey Czar. Except I think it was gonna be $25 for a coon and 20 for a possum. And $100 for an eagle. They get adult turkeys so bounty would have been a lot more for them. Obama spent all that money anyway and now we have no turkeys to show for it

You also need to put a bounty on feral cats, and make it illegal for people (like me) to Bush hog or plant anything in May or June. I killed a nest full of eggs back in late May, while drilling corn. 😭

I killed a nest full of eggs back in late May, while drilling corn. 😭 That's always discouraging to run over a nest, but you gotta plant chufas somewhere in that time period. My plan included big kickbacks to landowners for planting chufas. In fact, chufas were gonna be by far the most profitable crop.to grow, so you would have seen them everywhere. And there was gonna be government payments for all sorts of habitat improvement projects, and everyone would have abandoned loblolly plantations to make turkey habitat. And I was even make the turkey researchers happy by giving them billions of research dollars. The only catch is that they had to focus on things that would actually benefit turkeys instead of trying to just justify hunting restrictions. We would for sure have Roundup Ready chufas by now. Some of the biologists would have said that taking my money was a sell-out and they should all stay true to the agenda, but trust me, they would have sold out anyway. If only Obama would have returned my phone calls.

It makes me sick to think that because you hunt turkeys that makes you an expert. Some men make their living laying brick and mortar. I do not. It’s easy to spot men who rely on anecedote, innuendo, logical fallacy, and presentation. They’re often the highest paid in my profession. Dr. Chamberlain is cut from this cloth. His inauguration into the turkey world was with a research project where he declared that hens conducted an exhaustive search of their habitat before settling on a nest site that they had previously visited. Research, done by others under him, proved that this was not the case. In fact, this is actually what Dr. Chamberlain cited as the most surprising thing he has ever encountered in his turkey research- that he was proven wrong about something.

I'm a turkey expert I believe. I can grill it, fry it, smoke it and all kinds of stuff. Most any of us are more qualified to be a turkey expert than that idiot calling himself a turkey doctor.

Spent the weekend at bear camp with some biologists that actually get dirty in the field. General consensus is that politicians are making the decisions based on how they feel... not based on science.

General consensus is that politicians are making the decisions based on how they feel... not based on science. There is a whole lot about modern society that is sad, but the way that politics has been injected into science is one of the saddest. I am all for science, but now I don't know whether I can trust the scientists. Turkey research is just a relatively unimportant example of this; I don't know if I can trust any scientific study on any subject because politics is now involved in everything.

So do the biologists 😁 These guys are doing what they love, & not making a huge living at it. When their hours of research & scientific data are brushed to the side by some bureaucrat... it's like a slap in the face.

I would say I have heard less and less of the "lets see where the science leads us" talk lately and much more of the activist approach of "lets quantify how bad X policy is" or "show how global warming is screwing this up" kind of talk. It was always there in the background but now it seems more like a badge of honor (maybe virtue signalling)
