just recently learned of this so picked a ton down at the ranch and made a gallon. That stuff sure is refreshing when you're all hot and sweaty.

Yup, its better than lemonade. I got a big sumac here in my yard and I could probably bottle and sell it. Indians made it by the barrel and traded it to white settlers back in the 1700's. It keeps you hydrated and has better more natural electrolytes than sports drinks.

We only have winged sumac at our place it makes a very weak drink but still delicious. I have heard other varieties are better so will have to seek some out or plant some. I am really spoiled now and need to come across some more.

Smooth Sumac grows really well on hill sides. Winged Sumac does not do well North of the Fall Line (Prattville). The winged sumac down here makes really good lemonade (sumac-ade). That is what we got down here.

We have winged in tuscaloosa. I've been told the smooth variety is better, but what I had was fantastic.

There is the poison kind, then there is the not poison kind. The not poison kind is good to eat

I will get some pictures tomorrow and show ya'll. Sumac is good, the poison kind is rare in Alabama and its easy to tell the difference.
