Wal Mart has throw and grow for 9.99 a 5lb. bag. It is mostly ryegrass. I tried it one time when it first came out. It grew well but the deer didnt feed on it at all or at least not enough to notice. What are yalls experience with it?

You'll have to rely on CNCs response to the pros of throw n hope. But deer don't usually eat grass. Rye grain yes. Ryegrass no.

For a simple, inexpensive fall plot, you can't beat wheat, oats and rye. Plus you don't really have to be concerned about the soil conditions. That stuff will grow on a warm sidewalk with a little moisture.

Buy the seed package with a picture of the biggest buck or Tiffany Lakosky for best results. What is she wearing on said bag?

I can't imagine not ever plowing dirt. That's the best damn part of hunting season to me.
If God wanted us to throw and mow then he wouldn't have given us enough sense to invent the disc harrow. Just a sling blade.

I used the same throw and grow mix on my little 1/18th acre plot I put on a bench up in the mountain. it was the only green within a mile come january. we killed multiple deer off it each year for 2-3 years until I sold the place inclduing my dads first archery deer, and a decent 8 point. Think of it as a small snack for the deer to slow down for or move 50 yards out of their way to get. They wont be walking a mile uphill to get to it, but a buck walking 100 yards in thick stuff, may walk across and scent check for does that are feeding at night on it. We only hunted it during bow season and in january. gave it 2 months to grow and deer to feed without being bothered. also added mineral sight and fake scrapes to try and make it a social hub. plant in sept and fertilize again in November.
