We put a bat house up about four years ago and until last night we had not had any confirmation that there were any bats living in it even though we had seen some around the house from time to time. But, after last night we decided to go sit outside tonight and wait and watch for them to come out. We were not disappointed and DoA filmed it. He did edit some of the time out when there were no bats exiting the house. Here's the video.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.
I was excited to finally see something besides wasps coming out of it! I'll probably be back out there tomorrow evening, too. Same BAT TIME, same BAT CHANNEL!

There is 2 different high fence. 1 small and one big! Mine was free range in the big pen and was not a breeder buck. Why does it have to be twisted around??
Outstanding! Good job on helping to conserve them. If it isn't full - it's darn close to it. I stopped counting at 50 and at least three times more came out. I would have to go frame by frame and make notes to be accurate but no real need.

Thanks! I'm going to order another house just like that one, mount it on the opposing side of the post, and increase the size of the sun shade slightly...should give me a capacity of around 400, assuming I'm correct about them being Little Brown bats.

I just thought about something akin to the wrist band comment to get a rough idea of the number that came out of YOUR bat house. Maybe rig up a UV dye applicator soft brush with a reservoir of dye at the entrance/exit. If visiting bats are flying around with YOUR bats, shine or affix a cheap (less than 20 bucks) UV flashlight of the proper wavelength into the sky. Any auto parts store sells the lights, but get a non-toxic animal marker dye. YOUR bats should light up the sky like lightning bugs among all the others present.
I had never even heard of a bat house before this thread. Glad they're using it, Clayne and they are good to have around.

That's awesome. I built a bat house more than 20 years ago. Only reason I can remember roughly how long ago it was is because it's made from Cypress and I haven't had any Cypress since I left Troy in 2000. It's a big one, I think it's supposed to hold 500 bats. I have never seen any guano around the base of the pole, but honestly I haven't looked in many years. I set a reminder in my phone to check this afternoon. Congrats on your success!
What kind of wood did you use and can you post links to the design?
