We don't have a house. But it was cooler one evening earlier this week. Went out to feed the dogs. Bats were everywhere. Pretty cool. No idea where they stay.

Don’t you live fairly close to the dam?

We had them in the attic for about 3 yrs. drove me nut. They got in the wall behind our bed and would scratch and make racket. Finally got them moved out and blocked out. We didn’t have many skeeters or other flying bugs those years. Now skeeters are tearing us up. Might be time to copy a setup like yours.

The bat house I have is linked in the description of that video on YouTube, it's made of Ohio pine so as to be durable and non-aromatic. Aromatic woods, like cedar, will kill their young, so it would be years before they started using it, if ever.

Perch, while it's the first one about bats, that was my 10th video posted on my channel, check it out!

Just a few miles. I put up a bat house for a lady several years ago. Looked weird. Would have never guessed what it was. I've watched the bats come out of the caves just above the dam. Thousands come out. Amazing

If so, it's not much, right now. The base for the post is in the middle of a "V" shaped raised flower bed, and it's a little grown up in there, so I couldn't say for sure until I get out there with a weedeater!

The house is mounted just below the top of a 16' 4 x 6 post, and the post is mounted a couple feet or so above ground on a hinge mount that also made of 4 x 6's...it's probably about 17 or 18 feet up. Bats can't take off like a bird, they have to freefall a little to build forward airspeed before they can fly, so they like their house high up, and a little bit away from trees or taller structures where birds of prey might lurk to wait on them.

I bet that’s where yours are coming from. At its peak there’s around 60,000-70,000 that come out of that cave during the peak time of the year. That’s mid summer.
