They’ve replaced the one in double springs a few times since the put it up a few years ago. I’m pretty sure the first one was even bigger

I bet those Nigerian bastards don't go trying to tear those down.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Right off 278 in between Natural Bridge and Double Springs right? You should go down town and see this one. Thats it. Ill detour next time and check out the downtown one.
Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

That's kind of ironic knowing the history of Winston County. Not really..... see the statue down town resembles a soldier half union / half confederacy to show they supported no side. You can still go to the original Looney's tavern site off County Road 41 and see where they succeeded from Alabama and created their own state. It is a very unique history and the people of this county I would argue are still some of the most unique in the state. It's probably where I feel the most free in this world and I'm damn proud of it.

a friend of mine near Leeds/Bass Pro used to have a huge Confederate flab on a big pole near his lake, clearly visible from the road. One night someone pulled it down and took it. He put a new one up a few days later with a bank dye bomb rigged to the rope at the bottom. A week later he found the bomb had detonated, but the flag was still flying. I seem to remember they found the brightly colored individual a day er so later in Leeds.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Dang Irishguy, I just did a quick history lesson. I never knew that and sure would have thought the opposite of Winston co.
A lot of North Alabama felt the same way. I obviously wasn't alive back then to know the true stories, but I would imagine most of the places like Dekalb and Jackson counties were not pro-Confederacy. More reading on the subject... http://www.encyclopediaofalabama.org/article/h-1850

More reading on the subject... http://www.encyclopediaofalabama.org/article/h-1850That article forgets to include the reason behind the “unionists”. Winston County always has been the least populated and one of the poorest counties in the state, it was back then as well. There wasn’t a single slave owner in the county so when the state requested the number of men they did it was devastating to the county and most farms and families would have failed.
