Well, I did it. I had the chance to lease 80 acres in Wilcox Co., near Kimbrough.
Co-worker had the contact and he has 80 almost next to it and a place to camp
about 2.5 miles away, all dirt road.
So, what kinda hunting should I be expecting.? Looks like its mostly 10-12 year old
pines with a few hardwood draws coming through.
With the camp nearby I'll be able to use my 4wheeler from camp to access.
Thanks goodness cause its got some rough holes the final 1/2 mile.
I'm guessing the rut in Mid-Late Jan???

I had two things stolen from my old lease on Willie Powell Rd. so i considered that a win. However the amount of trespassers you will have will blow your mind. You may not see them, but you will see signs of them. I had several on camera and was finally able to get Warden involved and get a warrant and an arrest made. We finally lost that lease, I hope your luck was better than mine down there.

Same general area. Everything E and NE of Anne Manie is drugs and thugs.

Time to get a new rifle. I would suggest as a land owner in area for 40 years to purchase a Springfield M1A. Be careful and don't turn your back on them. Treat them with respect but be firm. If you don't you will catch hell or will be dead.
Resign yourself that they are there everyday and will hunt everyday and most nights too.
I personalty know of one group of young hunters pissed them off and when daddy came up to hunt in his new 3/4 ton Diesel fully loaded truck with trailer and 4 wheeler. one morning a few days later he found his new truck, trailer and 4 wheeler sitting on the rims with no glass in truck and everything not nailed down gone with all tires cut.
Don't think you will out gun them. After you have been up there a while you will hear what I am talking about. They like to do mag dumps with weapons that only take a few seconds to empty with one pull of trigger.
I would hate to see a third man get cut down in that area.

Start hunting with an AR-10. 20 round mags. Keep 3 extra mags in your backpack. Don’t help anyone stranded on the side of the road.

I know not what I speak. I have only dealt with them for a few years, a little over 40. Yes your right again. I am not from that area I live in Camden. I own land on 162 at the 9 mile marker!
By the way, there is a cross on road across from my camp house where the last young man was killed so I don't know anything.

I had a 40 acre tract just north of 32 between Hwy 5 and the railroad tracks for 5 years. We have our trophy club that we manage intensively on the east side of the river and kept this little piece on the west side just to have if someone just wanted to go shoot a deer. Good little piece and we saw deer everytime someone sat it. I rarely was on it other than planting the one big field we had in there, but the few times I did hunt it or went over to work on it, you couldnt enjoy yourself cause you were always wondering whether your truck was getting broke into out on 32 while you were hunting. Cousin had his window broken and truck ransacked and someone used a pry bar to get into the tool box on the back of mine. In that 5 years, he and I were probably over there 15-20 times between the two of us. So I guess only getting broke into 10% of the time (2 out of 20) is pretty good for that general area. Last thing to happen was when his window got smashed and we dropped the lease after that. So yeah, I have just a little bit of first hand knowledge of the thug BS that goes on over that way and the trash that lives in that general area.

There’s no way I’d subject myself to that. I’d hunt elsewhere.
