so you're re-painting it Emerald Blue Pearl? that's the factory color? That's my understanding. It's the factory color as far as my research shows. The paint shop guy is getting the color code off the door jamb. It's kind of a neat color that I didn't care for at first, but it's kind of grown on me. Sometimes is looks blue and other times it looks green.

I just don’t see how they could be doing anything but having a little bonding time, honestly I’m not being rude or smart but a usable single stage paint would cost at least half what you’re paying and figure at least 20 hours labor for what I’m seeing plus all the other supplies like tape, paper, thinner, body filler and sanding pads. It don’t add up to profit.
I’m not being smart when I say if it’s decent, I’ll put more on them than they can finish in a lifetime. I didn't think you were being smart. I had the same thing explained to me at the other shops I went to that told me $800 to paint the two front fenders and the cowl. Like I said... "We'll see." Decent is all I'm looking for since it's a cabin toy and will be taken off road. I'll happy with a decent paint job. If it's a good paint job I will be thrilled. Just a curiosity question: How much paint would it take to paint a Jeep tub like mine?

You can get decent paint for a little over a hundred a gallon. Thats plenty for that jeep. It wont be top of the line but it will probably look alright. Low overhead, no employees or insurance, maybe cash deal, and they arent getting rich but probably enjoy what they are doing.
If you are using a polyurethane base coat / clear coat , a quality clear coat runs about 800 per gallon. That isn't including primer, or base coat .... just the clear. You will stretch it with reducer and hardener, but those cost money too. A quality primer is several hundred per gallon and the same rules apply. Quality paint is is every bit as important as prep when it comes to the longevity of the life of the finished product. But if you going in knowing you will probably get what you pay for then that's up to whoever is getting the service rendered.

OK guys... So a little update on this thread. I finally got back from Mobile and was able to get by the body shop this morning. Needless to say I was very pleasantly surprised, but before we dive into the pics I want to clarify this is not a base coat/clear coat paint job it is a single stage PPG urethane paint. And honestly I'm glad. I have had really good experiences with single stage paints in the past when trying to buff scratches and and fading out. So being a Jeep that I plan to get scratched up I think it's for the best. Now that that's out of the way on to the pics. This is Randy Spillman. He's the owner. I think his son Josh did most of, if not all of, the work. A better shop of the quality of the paintwork... It turned out better than I could have hoped for. Can't wait to get it back and get it all put back together.

The Jeep looks so good right now that I hate to put all the old stuff back on it. He was going to paint the fender flares, but he told me eventually the paint would want to start coming off the plastic flares. So I just got on Amazon and ordered a new complete set of OEM flares and I just got off the phone with Randy and told him to not bother painting the old ones. I ordered: New tail lights A new gas filler bezel New mirrors New aftermarket bumpers I have a new winch to go on it I just had a new windshield put in it. New spare and matching wheel I've got a new 2" lift to go on it. The lists goes on and on. Thank goodness I'm married to a good woman. Every time the a package shows up at the cabin she just smiles and rolls her eyes.

Looks good. I would dump the running boards. All they do is collect mud.
I almost went with that same too for my son’s TJ. But, didn’t like the fact you can’t take it completely off and store it in the Jeep like you can a factory style top. Regarding the running boards... Mrs. Irish likes them. So there's that. Regarding the top. I had the Bestop Trailtop NX and I liked it, but it was pretty pricey. This Smittybilt is every bit as good a quality (In my opinion.) Plus it has storage for all three windows in the actual Bikini top which is neat. Plus it also has an over head console of sorts in the form of pockets sewn in which is nice. You can take the bikini portion off, but it's not as easy as just flipping a couple of latches and flipping the top back. During the summers and mild weather, in all our previous Jeeps, we have mainly just ridden around with the doors off and all the windows out. We are too old to have the sun beating down on us all day long in Alabama, so we like the bikini top and just run like that most of the time.

That looks damn good Irish! Should be plenty of fun once it starts to cool down, albeit you're already in the mountains. Both if us are pretty damn happy with the way it turned out. Like I was telling Doekiller, with the fact that the top quickly strips down to just the Bikini, it's actually pretty nice as long as you are moving and you are shaded from the hot sun.

I was hoping it was going to be some hot chick stripping in celebration of Drive Your Jeep Naked Day. Damn
