Just thought I would throw this out there and get some informed opinions.
I am retired and I draw a couple of pensions, not a lot ,but enough to not have to do without anything. I invested some money in some mutual funds years ago.
I get 4 quarterly statements a year. I had planned on letting this money ride until I turn 69 1/2, then I will have to start withdrawing it. Last quarter I lost $17,000 for Jan thru Mar.
I got my most recent statement today. I had gotten almost $15,000 of the 17,000 back . Which is quite a relief. Kind of hard to figure out what the economy is doing. I was hoping this quarter was better, but did not expect it to rebound that well.

It's not how much money you make, but how much you can keep.

The market is getting better at an amazing rate. The economy is shot until the lower 1/3 of the workers can get fully back to work. The economy has an affect on the market but they are not one and the same. Either one can be doing well while the other is in the tank. Counter intuitive, I know.

The stock market has given the best consistent returns out of any investment for the past 50 years. The downside is that it can crash. If you are counting on that money to pay for day to day expenses than the risk may not be worth the reward. It is your money and your decision. My retirement funds are still in the market.

At this point investing in the markets is legalized gambling. We are in uncharted waters.... I would say that is an undeniable fact. Personally we are doing a lot at our office to prepare for a slowdown in the 3rd and 4th quarters. We kicked the can down the road with the stimulus and a LOT of small businesses are just not going to survive.... because this China Virus is not going away. We are going to be in this pattern for a while.

California is shutting back down that's all you need to know. They are a huge piece of the overall economy of the United States.

They keep pumping money into the markets and they might go up despite all this. At some point someone somewhere has to pay the Piper.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Duck not really counting on it for day to day, just maybe something extra. Also, was wondering when time comes to withdraw which would be better? Lump sum or payments?

You also don't have to start withdrawing it until you're 70 1/2

Go spend some time on bogleheads.org. But right now I would say it depends on what it does to your tax bill.

I think it rebounded so fast is because the Fed turned on the money printer and added 4-5 trillion in debt. Q3 & Q4 will be rough with stuff closing back down.

How old are you now? If your within a couple years of you goal I would move it to some kind of asset management fund.

I would worry myself to death if I looked at my retirement account all the time. I get quarterly statements, and thats enough for me. 2 quarters ago, my account was at 92k. Oct- Dec quarter it was 77k. The one I got for the end of March it was @ 98k.

The last quarter Obama was in charge of the economy, it was @ 48k...

I know the government needs to stop handing out money to worthless people that won’t work. I’ve got more work than I’ve ever had and can’t hardly find any help. Ive had people tell me there is no need for them to go to work when the make 800 a week on unemployment. I know several small businesses begging for help just like me and can’t find anyone. It’s crazy how sorry people are

Yep we were going to rehire a good employee that left a yr or so ago, this week. He asked when he would start we told him the next day. He said he would talk with his wife and let us know. Called back an ht later and said nah it would mess up his unemployment and he and his wife were going shopping the next day so work was not for him right now.

That is total BS. When does the $800 per month end?

It is 800 a week if not mistaken.

Ben if I’m not mistaken once an employer offers them a job their benefits can be removed if they refuse to go to work. Am I wrong?

He is not my employee. He reports that he applied for jobs to unemployment they never ask us who applied. I wish that was the case though
