My mom passed away Monday(juno Beach, Fl). I need to get her furniture out of her appartment asap and get it shipped up here. She had an 8 ft couch a smaller 6ft couch and a chair that I wanted for sentimental reasons. There would be just a couple of real small things included as well. My brother who lives down there said he talked to someone and they wanted around 2 grand to ship it to Calera. Do any of you have any ideas that could save me some money? Thanks for the help in advance.

Rent a uhaul is the only thing or take a buddy’s pickup or trailer down and fetch the stuff

You can fly down to West Palm Beach for about $300. I flew back from there early April for $268. Rent a Uhaul and drive back. That’s about an 11-11.5hr drive.

Sorry for your loss.
I've never done it before, but you could try getting a quote from Pods or another similar storage/moving company.
Maybe Ben2 will come along shortly with some expert guidance.

Cheapest would be drive down pulling a uhaul enclosed trailer and haul it back or hire someone to do that for 4 or 5 hundred plus costs if you cant do it yourself.

Sorry for your loss. $2k sounds like a lot. Must be a retail rate. I used to be in the retail shipping business and packed a whole house and shipped it LTL to California with lift gate inside delivery for about $3k but it was back in the 1999.

Sounds like a job for a pick-up and a large U-haul trailer on a 3 day weekend.

When you say the price was to ship it does that mean he got it quoted by a moving company. I would think you could find a company with another small load going that way and they could back haul your items for a discounted rate. If we were going to just leave here drive there pick up the items and drive back it would be more than 2000. 24 hrs just in driving, 2 or 3 nights hotels plus the load and unload time. Not that it will help for the sofa unless you can dissassemble it but you can ship packages up to 100lbs through UPS or Fed ex. If you can break the items down , put them in wardrobe boxes weigh them on a bathroom scale and try UPS.

I will check and see if we have anything going that way where we could make you a deal on a backhaul. Is there any time frame on when it would have to be picked up?
