School like normal for the most part, with a few changes to help spread the kids out a bit.

I know Grissom is still having football practice.

They also gave the teachers a template of a 9ft circle and told the teachers to figure out how many of them they can fit in their classrooms. I think the average was like....7....

Again its not harmful for children let em practice football, band whatever.

Quick Google search gave me these numbers.
.01% mortality in under 18 age group
Roughly 1,000,000 school age kids in AL
That's 10,000 deaths.

That's not exactly harmless.

My kids are going to school.

Your math is bad. You are also assuming that every student in Alabama would contract the virus. As of June 17, there had been 151 deaths of people under age 24 in America. 26 deaths of people under 15.

They will be much safer in the classroom than on the roads to and from school.

Maybe 2% (based on Sunday ADPH numbers), but what's a couple orders of magnitude among deer hunters. smile

The high school my daughter attends is planning to have in-person instruction with some minor changes to try to accommodate some of the health official recommendations. I think my son's college classes will be a mix of online and in-person.

Such a complicated issue. The kids are at very low risk, but some are concerned they will spread it to mom/dad/etc. who may be more at risk. Some research says kids don’t spread it easily. It was probably here in the fall when schools weren’t doing anything different and the world didn’t come to an end.

I'll preface this with: I'm from Mississippi and I'm bad at math, but isn't .01% of 1,000,000 only 100??
In no way am I suggesting that 100 child deaths are ok. Much less 10,000.
And that would assume every student in Alabama would get the virus.

Also take into account teachers that are pregnant or trying to be and the risk they are being put in by having to be in person. They don't have the choice the students/parents have.

You're right that I made an assumption that was wrong.

But you proved my GA math education is better than a Miss one.

I think that is what I said a few post ago about his math being bad.

He took 1,000,000 and multiplied it by 0.01. But, 0.01% isn't 0.01, it is 0.0001. So, he should have multiplied 1,000,000 by 0.0001 and the answer to that is 100

We have the option here in Walker county of going or home schooling. My 16 year old son said he's going. He said that he knew there was no way he would do the work at home so he better go. grin
I appreciate his honesty.

I read Cullman county was going with no mask required. Their superintendent made sense in how you were going to keep them on the younger kids without them touching them and swapping them

10000/1000000 = .01 that would be the percent right?

hell, maybe I'm a dumbass.
