Anyone in the south zone likely remembers how the season used to be. For north zone it opened early and stayed open until after the start of bow season. In the south zone it opened 1-2 weeks after the north zone, stayed open for maybe two weekends and then closed a week or two before October 15th.

This was around the time I was in college and it pissed me off to no end how arbitrary/foolish the way the seasons were set. Absolute stupidity the way the south zone got screwed. They finally seemed to have gotten it right in recent years.

I am sure both zones got the same number of days to hunt during those years, but like a majority of hunters in the state, I rarely dove hunted past November. Saturdays mornings in September-October were always a good time to prep for deer season in the morning and dove hunt in the p.m.

Just doing some reflecting this evening..
