Looking to see if Aldeer can help me with water well installation 101.
I've never lived on well water or spent much time around them.

Cost-wise I'm getting quotes of $5,000-8,000ish or so. This well would be in the Waverly area.
Are there any brands of pumps/equipment to outright avoid? Any suggestions to prolong longevity of equipment? Any tips I should be aware of on how to pick the proper well contractor?

Thank you and Happy 4th of July.

The only input I can give you is when I was a youngun, we had a drilled well (narrow-deep) and everyone near us had bored wells (shallow-wider). Several summers in drought years they ran out of water. We never did.

I appreciate that suggestion.

I know you're over in the eastern part of the county, but how deep is your well? Has it given you any headaches equipment-wise? Do you have your inlet run through a water softener?

I have a 200 foot well. I had pump issues due to the pump not being appropriate for the application. I had it installed 12 years ago by a supposedly reputable well installer. I'm on my third pump and I think its finally right. I've spent close to $10, 000 on this well over 12 years. The best advice I can give is make sure the pump is rated for the depth and make sure they add check vavles as needed.
I work on chemical pumps for a living but long term submersible installs are a different animal.

My advice is don't use a well. Get on county water, whatever the cost.
Wells are great for irrigation but they suck for dependable water supply.
Always a problem, constantly, with the pump, the plumbing, the primer, the water quality, always something

Ya, I'm absolutely alright spending the money upfront to be sure I don't have frustrations a few years down the road.

What size HP/GPM pump do you have in your system?

If you go with a well, be sure you keep the ants controlled around the pump, no matter what brand, because it is not a matter of IF but WHEN they will get into things and cause you problems.

I'm not against that.

The waterline would need to come about 3/4ish of a mile down the dirt road one direction or about 1 mile down the road the other direction, it's at the end of the paved road.
Though I could explore this with the neighbors buying the land right next door to me.

Any idea on the cost to run it that far?

I've run 1 1/2" pvc for almost a mile. Granted that was almost 15 years ago, the cost was less than $1.00 per ft including trencher.
Be sure to add a gate valve every 200-250 feet and include a tracer wire.

So pretty much for the cost of one well more or less I could maybe run the line from the paved road.

I assume this would be put in the right of way area, though there are several creeks that cross under the road in culverts that would complicate that.

First couple pumps were 1 hp 20gpm, this one is 1 hp 15gpm. I have 200 blueberry bushes and a garden I irrigate. I I used city water my bill would be 200 a month

I've had way too much experience with wells. More than I care to recall.
This is just one man's opinion, but I wouldn't even consider the cost of a well unless I needed crop irrigation.
If county water is available, go that route, whatever the cost.

At the hunting camp jeremy FIL ran prob close to 2 miles of water line, ran a spare right next to it. With valves every couple hundred feet to isolate for a leak. No way I'd put in a well if there was a way to get county water there.

Yep, go with county water if feasible. For electricity, pay to have it run to your property, one pole on your property, then go underground to your building site, you will never regret it.

Dumb question, how do you cross a creek with a water line?
