I passed on carrying a gun... statistics show you are more likely to shoot yourself than actually use it for self-defense. I actually don't know anyone who has fired a gun in self-defense. Funny thing is, I don't hate on my friends who choose to carry and they respect my decision for not carrying. I've never had to fire mine but I've had to pull it out a few times in montgomery. 99% of the time just showing that you are armed will instantly defuse the situation. Im 100% sure if I hadn't had a pistol on me I'd have been robbed on 3 or 4 occasions.

I know I know I sound like Out back but he ain't wrong a minirevolver or keltec .32 beats what you left at home. That's EXACTLY why my main CC is a DB9. The thing is tiny and so light weight that it's easy to forget it's in your pocket. I do keep a larger double stack 9 in my truck and keep a few in my home, all with spare mags but the little 9 is easy and painless to carry therefore I'm rarely without it on me. Before I got it, I would find myself without one pretty often because it was a PITA to carry all of the time. If you are one of those guys I strongly urge you to consider a tiny CC. You can always carry something bigger when you feel like it or even carry them both. Sometimes I do just that. yep, same here. g43 with g19 close by.

Evil lives among us. Ignoring or acknowledging that simple fact is up to each individual.
Armed is an oversimplification of the world around us in my humble opinion.
Training is much more important to me than just having a weapon of some sort on one's person (the most powerful weapon we all have is inside of our skull). Keeping one's self in top(ish) physical condition, being trained in physical combat, being trained in the use of weapons and the interactions of those who we are responsible for in adverse situations/environments (tactics), making certain these skills stay sharp (they are frangible) and being as well equipped as we can be within our individual budgets are more at the top of my list. Myself and my people are all armed and trained as well as we can be within the limitations we personally face.
1.) Physical training - one needs to be in the best physical condition they can. Start slow and work up. The key is consistency. One can't start lifting weights today and be as strong as they ever will be tomorrow. Baby steps in the right direction put us all where we need to be in time.
2.) Physical combat - 2 types. One needs to be adept at stand up striking and groundwork. Kyokushin karate and brazillion jujitsu are the ones I recommend. Self defense classes in either of these is actually much better than the standard classes. Self-defense is dirty fighting (or, as I call it, fighting to win). I don't compete or test any more so no need for clean fighting training.
2.) Weapons training - make certain everyone in your care has the basics down pat. Higher levels of training need to be ongoing and more and more demanding.
3.) Tactics - proper techniques for individual and small units are invaluable. I can not stress this enough.
4.) Law regarding each - know it.
5.) Plans - natural disaster, man made disaster, etc. Proper previous planning prevents piss poor performance.
Sorry about the long post but the information contained in it is as abbreviated as I can make it.

I've written replies to this and erased it several times. Always carry. !00%. I'll leave it at that. The life you save may not be yours.

The federal govt keeps track of all the gun statistics. Send me the information from a federal source and change my mind. FBI or maybe ATF... I would be glad to support your view point if the data shows I am wrong.

Sorry about the long post but the information contained in it is as abbreviated as I can make it. On physical combat, that really stood out to me about fight to win. My dad was a Corpsman in Vietnam. After I got my ass whooped in a fight my dad told me something I will never forget. He asked If I stood there toe to toe with him and I told him that I did. He replied by telling me that he bagged a lot of Marines that would do the same thing against the Vietnamese. and first stay out of fights, but I should always fight to win. Life is not a boxing ring. Cheating rules did not apply on the streets, win however is needed, ball kicks, eye gouges, makeshift weapons, whatever it takes.

As a strong advocate for the 2nd Amendment and CCPs, I like to keep up with this stuff. This is a good article from Forbes from two years ago. As the article states, it is easy to come up with statistics on how many people are shot or killed by guns, not so easy to come up with statistics on how many lives were saved, as we will never know how many thugs fled the scene when someone began to produce a weapon for defense. But the statistics we do have are overwhelming that there are many more lives saved than taken every year. To say that you are statistically better off not carrying than if you are is not supported by any valid study out there, anti-gun groups aside. Forbes article

But I don't want to do a bunch of research, state factual data and it get dismissed. Will see. Again, I hope I am wrong.
