Why are all these wore out sunburned people walking down the road this week? It looks like they have been walking for a few hundred miles, and one guy this morning didn't even bother to get off the road in rush hour traffic.

My wife said there was a race going on that ends in Georgia. But I searched Google and didn't find anything about it. Saw them all come thru Florence and Athens earlier this week. Probably saw 50 people over 4 days.

I saw all these folks too. Dang near got me hit. They are being foolish walking these madison/athens roads with no shoulder and traffic that should be on an interstate that is funneled onto two lane roads.

Ive seen them for 3 days in a row, including on 431 South before daylight IN THE ROAD. They aren't "walkin to gunnersvul" because they come off the highway, cut off and head back towards Jackson County.

They are doing a race from Arkansas to somewhere in Georgia and the road I live on is the main route they take. My GSP has motivated them daily to move faster for the past week. Matter fact I caught one in mid swing with his walking stick this morning. Told him to put the stick down all she would do is lick you to death.

Its the southern version of the Iditarod with no dogs.

It's the annual HOTS road race from Memphis to a spot in NW Georgia. It's 304 miles long.

The route shown on the HOTS site is U.S. 72 almost the entire way except for a portion in Huntsville that goes through Five Points up Bankhead, southish through the 'hoods to U.S. 431, over Monte Sano and south to Owens Cross Roads. From there the runners go on Gum Spring Road to Cherry Tree and wind back through to U.S. 72 east.

Part of that reason is for a local runner who died last year from cancer, and who was well known for years in the regional distance running community. The other reason is to highlight the Huntsvllle Land Trust properties downtown and on Cherry Tree. After it gets on 72 again it goes to and through Scottsboro, crosses BB Comer Bridge, hangs a left and goes uphill, and then onward through the country to its finish.

Dunno but I've seen an influx of people walking the roads, and passed out drunk in front of convenience stores the past few weeks 🤔

I'm on cherry tree rd and it makes sense to come this way to highlight the land trust that's right next to me. That place stayed absolutely slammed the last few months, we usually walk up to the waterfall from my house.

I've talked with several of the folks doing the race, really nice people but dadgum crazy for running/walking that far

She did, and had to have her leg amputated. Terrible deal.

Momma always said, "don't play in the road". I guess they don't teach common sense in new York.
