How many tons? Get me the tonnage and I'll give you a budget number for a comparable Bryant or Lennox.

Don Whaley. Honest guy, one man and a van. He can get very busy and I've heard from a few people that getting a call back might take a little bit, especially during the summer.

I've used him for a few years and would use him again in a heartbeat.

Centerpoint, but it happens everywhere. If a house sits empty for any amount of time, the ac and copper will be gone.

One of the best I've found is James Chapman, owner of Argo Air in Margaret, AL. His number is 205-629-7180.

Don Whaley is good with good prices but I won't use him because he is spread too thin. My unit went out one morning last summer so I called him and left him a message telling him who I was (he had done work for me before) and that the unit wasn't working. He returned my call... 4 days later. By then I had already called someone else. Like I said, good guy with good rates but when the air goes out this fat boy needs someone immediately. smile

On Don Whaley, it's like the guy said a few posts below. He does a great job, but is unreliable. Back in January (this year, 2017), when it was our worse cold snap of the winter, he told me he would be out that afternoon. I texted him from work that evening to find out what he found, and got no reply.

The next day, I texted him if he would be able to get to the job by Friday, and again no reply. I'm sitting here with a family in the cold and the man can't take 30 seconds to text back or call. I never heard from him. I don't know how he earns a living.

Meanwhile, I called Johnny Rich at Absolute Air, who someone on this forum recommended. He was great. Called me right back. Went out that day and called to explain everything. When I was still having problems after he finished, he came out the next day and continued to work on it until he got it right. Cross out Don Whaley and add Johnny Rich to be your HVAC man. 699-2494.

Has not been my experience with Don and have used him for years; he is a busy guy on nothing but referrals.
Maybe he just needs to learn how to say he is covered up and pick a good person to refer new customers too. Should return messages promptly; even if he has to turn down the work.
He is an honest guy and will only do what is necessary.

Don is not only good at HVAC but he is a good person too. He stays covered up by referral business only for a reason. He doesn't cheat or take advantage of customers and he does quality work.

However, it does seem like he needs to be a better business man and carve out time to return calls in a reasonable time period.

I'm going to add Johnny Rich to my list if and when Don can't get to me when I need some work done.

I'm not a new customer. I used Don infrequently over the years because my HVAC unit didn't need a lot of work.

It's more than just he might should be a better businessman and return calls. He is not a man of his word. He said he would come to my house that afternoon, didn't show up, didn't bother to tell me, and didn't answer my follow-up question if he was coming.

It takes less than 15 seconds to text or leave a voice mail that says; "I'm sorry. I can't do the job." That's less than 15 seconds, even if he didn't recommend anyone else.

Everyone is busy. Don is busy. I'm busy. Being busy is no excuse for not responding in that manner, especially during what turned out to be the coldest snap of this winter . Call Johnny Rich. He does what he says he'll do and will return your calls.
