Ya'll might do well to keep your head on a swivel tomorrow. Its Summer Solstice which always brings out some of the extra crazy folks. Longest day of the year.

You may also decide to get nekkid and paint yourself blue and dance around in the late afternoon Sun. Your call.

I ain't danced nekkid in the summer sun since Panama city the summer of 85. I could outrun the po po back then, no way in Hell now. I think I'll just be enjoying some sipping liquor at the house.

What you do today, you have to sleep with tonight.

I think I'll just put on some loose fitting shorts and get situated where that air conditioning vent blows up one shorts leg and out the other. Gonna be hot.

My granny on my dads side was born on the summer solstice and my grandmother on my mother's side was born December 21st the winter solstice. Always thought that was strange .

I’ll take it under advisement. Might try that after I drink a few of the limited edition Stella Summer Solstice beers I bought. Only saw one gold package in a stack of about 40 12 packs. Same price so might as well try it. beers rofl

My wife is a twin and their birthday's are tomorrow on the summer solstice. My oldest son's birthday is the winter solstice. My birthday this year was on mother's day and my wife's is on father's day. It's getting weird around here...

Pretty picture from our upper deck on the longest day of the year...

[Linked Image]

This is our upper deck with a little Compass Rose in the foreground. I designed it in CAD and had a local fabricator cut it out of steel.

The sun will start moving back south on the horizon today.

Did anybody stand an egg on it's little end? Ain't that supposed to work only on the solstice's? And who the Hell figured that out way back whenever?

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

The Sun was the only reliable calendar anybody had way back then. So figuring out when to plant crops, when to meet up with your neighbors who lived 200 miles away and when to do other things depended on the time of when the Sun was at a certain position and the days were short or long. Solar calendars like Stonehenge in England, or Woodhenge at Cahokia or the Egyptian placement of pyramids were important for people to keep up with things.

I used to do a sundial trick on different crews of laborers that I had on projects back in the 80s. I didn't wear a watch and therefore it astonished them. I'd have them stick a sharpshooter in the ground until exactly 12" of the blade was out of the ground and measure the shadow. I'd pretend to do some calculation with pencil and paper and tell them within 5 minutes of what time it was. What really happened is that I heard on the truck radio what time it was and the trick usually only worked once per crew.
