So I’m not exactly ignorant when it comes to plumbing and here’s my question.
I’ve got a noisy main line coming into the house. When I mean noise a vibratory/velocity noise when anything is ran. Just started out of the blue. I know it’s not the regulator because I’ve got one pipe going to my hose in the driveway and it make the same noise when you run it. In my world of automotive/industrial hydraulics we install mufflers in the system to dampen the harmonic pulses which translates to noise. So can this be done in a water system or what could be the culprit.

water hammers are commonly added.

I have seen were a small leak can make it start doing it out of the blue

I’ve seen water hammers but it not pressure spike like slamming a valve shut. It sounds just like a regulator hum but I’m convinced it’s not that.

go check meter and see if there's a leak/water running

I checked last night for a leak nothing. I sit and watched it just now for 10min didn’t move until my wife turned the washer on. Funny thing is it’s been doing this for about two weeks, couple days ago it stopped for a day then started back. Got 100psi from the meter and about 52 on the house side of the regulator. I can make a set jumper hoses up and use one of my flow meters to check the flow but have no idea what acceptable or normal.

something else you may can try if its constant. Go around and close the cutoff's to each valve and see if it stops.

I had a similar experience. Regulator was failing. Pressure was on the lower side of the normal range. New regulator solved the water hammer.

Well it seems as if I found my problem.. Sorta.. Guy next door stated that his water had been in his words “different” pressure wise. So water dept was gonna check their side, day or two after magically all my issues disappeared.
