Left Horn, your location states you are in Chelsea. There is an orthopedic urgent care on 280 there in Chelsea. Right next to Wells Fargo and Sonic.

I have sent folks there with good results.

Outback is right, most likely not torn, if you can lift a gallon of milk, grab your wallet, etc.

Having some pretty similar issues. Was throwing with my son in October and wasn’t warmed up. He was throwing pretty hard so I was trying to throw hard back...bad idea. It’s pretty painful and has gotten worse over time. If I were to have surgery, research says 6 weeks downtime. What can I expect on recovery if it is a torn RC? It’s in my right shoulder. Can I expect to be able to turn a wrench/shoot/exercise after recovery? Couple different sources said I might not be able to drive for a month. Is that the case? I know few in here are docs, but I figure there’s some experience that might offer insight.

I was off work 3 weeks but could not lift more than 5 pounds for a while. PT lasted 3 months and was very painful, took about a year to regain full strength. Mine was not torn, had an impingement that caused problems over time.

If you can sleep comfortably its probably not ready for surgery. Until you know what the problem is you want know recovery time.

Sounds like bone spurs. I had them in both of my shoulders and the longer you wait to get it fixed the worse it will get. If you get it repaired before it gets too bad the recovery is not as long. Andrews would be the best place to go. They may want you to go to therapy before surgery but if it is bone spurs the therapy is doing nothing but putting more money in their pockets.

Sounds like 'frozen' shoulder. I think the technical term is adhesive capsulitus. VERY painful.

Had it in both shoulders at the same time a few years ago and I could barely get dressed. Physical therapy was the solution.

That's what mine felt like. I was shutting the gate at the shop one afternoon, and it hurt so bad I did take a knee. I can't remember the name of the guy at St Vincents that I saw but he is one of the leading shoulder surgeons in the US. He did shoulder surgery on Bill Clinton when he was president. Andrews has tried to hire him, but the guy wouldn't leave unless Andrews would take his whole doctors group. Anyway, I went in expecting a diagnosis of bone spurs and torn labrum and came out with the diagnosis that I was a prime candidate for total shoulder joint replacement. I have no cartilage left in it. None. I'm putting it off as long as I can because frankly, the thoughts of having that surgery scare the hell out of me. It hurts all the time, but usually I can deal with it. One of my biggest concerns is that my left shoulder hurts a good bit too, pretty often. If you want the name of this doc, I'll get it for you.

EDIT: A quick Google search told me his name: https://drdavidadkison.com/meet-dr-adkison/

Went to Andrews today. Rotator cuff impingement. Apparently my acronium(bone above shoulder) is supposed to be flat but mine has a hook. It is rubbing things like bursa, tendons, and rotator cuff muscles. Gave me a steroid shot(which hurt like a mother and hurts worse now) and Told me to give it 3 weeks. If no relief or pain goes away for a while but comes back, have to do mri to see if a tear is present

Sure hope this steroid shot wears off soon and gives me some relief or I won’t be sleeping

Andrews is who I saw with my broke shoulder and who did my knee surgery. I didn’t have a steroid shot but did get a cortisone shot in the knee before they decided on surgery. The shot itself didn’t hurt a bit which they said surprised them but it ended up making my knee hurt worse because it felt swollen all the time.

Cortisone is a steroid. And yes, the shot itself didn’t hurt but shortly after felt like a golf ball in there. Feels like it may be subsiding soon

Didn’t know it was a steroid but, yes, the way it felt later is exactly how you described.

Dugas at Andrew's did my shoulder and my knee. So glad I did both. The rehab sucked but just treated it like hard work and I'm like new.

If no, then it's a torn rotator cuff.
If it hurts so dam bad it keeps you awake at night and you'd really think amputation would be better, then you know how I feel.

X2. Both of mine are that way. One doesn’t have a rotator cuff anymore

Did it improve the next day?

It's a curse to be right so much sometimes. Not really, but those symptoms sounded so familiar and yes, the shots are not fun and they gave me only temporary help and the surgery, like I said is not as bad as Rotator Cuff surgery, well the rehab isn't as bad anyways. I don't know what you do but you will be away from work for a couple of weeks or so most likely. I was back at work a week or so later but I sat behind a desk at that point of my career. I had to find a left handed holster to carry my duty weapon and thankfully I never needed it. I had my surgery in the early summer and was bowhunting that fall. In fact, the reason I had the surgery when I did was because the pain kept me from drawing my bow. Good news is that what you are allowed to do is only limited by the pain you experience with the exception of lifting heavy objects. In fact they direct you to move your arm as much as you can stand as soon as you can. The same day actually. Those first few days you don't think you'll ever lift your arm above your shoulder again but it gets better each day and the PT guy(or gal) will kill you stretching it out. They basically shave the bone flat again. It really sounds worse than it is and you have the best Dr. around so you'll be OK.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I had rotator cuff impingement. Bone spurs. I had them ground off. Both shoulders 3 years apart. Hurt like a mfer. The first one is good. The second one I still have pain and numbness in my arm.
