My blend I will use this year in my little test plots will be small burnett, chicory, radish, and hairy vetch. South Alabama. Anyone have any input on these? The only one I have used extensively is the radishes.

Vetch will really boom in the spring....it'll return N and add to the amount of biomass you produce...

I have buckwheat out on the plots now. I have three plots. 2 with this test blend 1 will have crimson clover. All 3 will be top sewn with rye early November.

Just depends on your situation but you may not end up with much buckwheat if plots are.small and.deer density medium to.high....They just wiped it out when I've seen it planted in a mix around here

Great info guys. I planted whitetail extreme last year in a sandy spot and it was doing well, but the logging crew parked on it in November. I never got to see what it would do.

I have a plot that I am waiting on the soil sample to come back on. Two years ago the pH was 7.9. Planning on using pelleted sulfur to knock it down.
Obviously with that high of a pH not much grows there. What should I plant to build up some biomass? Was thinking about vetch or buckwheat...

thank you For biomass, it's hard to beat brown top millet. When it heads out, cut it and the seeds will reseed and you can get another round of millet for free. You can double crop buckwheat the say way. I actually triple cropped buckwheat one year. thank you

Cnc you were right. My test plots this year are a 1/3 and 1/4 of an acre. They got wiped out already. My old test plots were about that size and never got wiped out. I've never hunted this property and I assume it is higher density or they really like buckwheat.

It's all good.....you live and you learn. There's still a lot of growing season left. You should get some other growth from Mother nature. Make sure to help it along with some nitrogen. If you haven't balance your P&Knit would be good to go ahead and bump them up a little. It doesn't have.to be to complete optimal rates....You can top them on off at fall planting....Just make sure to get some biomass growing

About half my buckwheat on one plot has made it to flowers. The other plot the deer killed. So I put out 3/4 of my p and k requirements this week and mowed one plot down. Then other I am just top sowing it. About 3 weeks ago I put about 80% of the lime requirement out.
