Watched it tonight and thought it was a good movie. For those who know, how close was the movie to what really happened? I know that Follywood embellished the story somewhat, but how much?

Premise of the movie is accurate...blowouts can and do happen, and they're bad, when they do. It's a dangerous job being done in a dangerous environment.
Most of the rest of it was pretty heavily embellished, but I thought it was a pretty good movie, too.

I’ve never been in a rig but I imagine it’s like working on a bomb that probably won’t blow up

I work in a chemical plant. The rigs are basically floating chemical plants. I thought the movie was very good and did a good job simplifying what happened.

I enjoyed the movie but like most movies, Hollyweird just had to create the evil corporate greed story to go with it.

A guy that now works with me had worked on the rig and had a buddy that was one of the main involved. Me and him talked about this topic a while back, I don't remember specifics, but he said there was some bullchit in the movie.

Actually, in that particular case, they didn't have to create it for the story.
