When I worked in Huntsville I bet I found 20 gas cans along the highway over the past 10 years. I never passed up a ratchet strap either, the big yellow ones that tractor trailers tied town with.
Working in a nice Hampton Cove neighborhood one morning I saw a man carry a nice step ladder to his ditch. I pulled up and asked him if he was throwing it away. He said he was.....because the rope broke on it. The damn ROPE. He said I could have it. It’s a brand new near 300 dollar ladder.
My neighbor threw out a lawn sweeper that you pull behind the mower. He said I could have it. I fixed something on it, don’t remember what. Maybe a wheel gear or something. Anyways... I swept my whole yard with it this week and have a pile of leaves piled by the ditch big enough to cover a dump truck. Worked fine now.
I picked up a nice gas grill once and fixed it.Used it for about 5 years. I Have a big fancy standup propane heater on my back porch that someone threw out. It had a broken ignition wire. Simple fix.
Found a Nice drill press someone threw out. Still don’t know what was wrong with it. Gave it to dad.
Found one of those nice deer targets in a trash pile. The replaceable insert piece was wore out. I filled it with great foam and shot it for 4 or 5 years until recently throwing it away.
Found a pair of beat up Costas floating in the gulf. They were absolutely trashed. I sent them to Costa warranty and they honored full warranty replacement on them.
Going down 565 into Huntsville I got to noticing pairs of gloves along the highway. I pulled over and saw they were brand new pairs of welding gloves. I back tracked and started picking them up as I seen them. Ended up with a sackful. I either gave them to dad or left them at work. I don’t remember.
There’s countless other things that I’ve picked up over the years.....and I never realized it, but Damn, I’m just like my Dad and Grandpa. They are both finding, fixing or piddling with things like this all the time.

A mutt puppy that was in horrible shape and took a while to get her back to normal. Six years later, she's laying by my side as I type this and is the best friend you could have and knows how lucky she is.

Oh, I found a nice pair of high dollar life vests on hwy 72 between Huntsville and Woodville. Another time I found a Tohatsu engine cowling. All of these are still taking up space in my garage.

Not me but my Grandfather found a Fox double barrel in the road near Woodville . Now that's a pleasant surprise! An old fella that hunts with us lost his double a few years back. Nothing fancy, an old Stevens, but he had hunted with it a long time. He and his son back tracked his rout, driving dirt roads and hi ways on the shoulder for about 15 miles looking for it. They didn't find it and put out the word that he lost it hoping some honest person had found it. 2 weeks later while putting something in his dad's truck, his son found it under some junk between the dog box and the bed side.
May the sound of hounds never die!

I was driving down Hwy 431 between Glencoe and Alexandria near Crystal Springs early one morning on the way to my hunting land when I saw what appeared to be an air compressor on the side of the Hwy. I turned around and sure enough, there was an Emglo dual tank compressor with a Honda motor. It was sitting upright just inside the grass right off of the graveled shoulder and it looked practically brand new. I figured someone had stopped to rebuckle and arrange their load or something during the night and didn't realize they had left it behind when they drove off. As I was loading it on my trailer it was just getting to be good daylight. I wasn't going to just leave it there because the owner may not come back for it if their next stop was very far and the next person to spot it may not be very honest. So I carried it a little bit out of my way to the Calhoun Co. Sheriff's Dept. This was before I had a cell phone so I just showed up there. When I told my story to the dispatcher or whoever it was my story he seemed annoyed and very rude the whole time. He had a Deputy who was also very annoyed and almost downright hateful.go out with me and I unloaded it (alone) of course. Out of curiosity a week or so later I called the SO to see if the owner had been identified and it returned to them. I spoke with someone different on the phone than I had spoken to in person and He seemed to be in a little better mood, not exactly friendly, but better. He told me that a local business (Anniston Steel Works or something similar) had been broken into the night before I found the compressor. So I assumed they had gotten it back.
I wasn't expecting a thank you from anyone about it, but I sure as hell wasn't expecting to be treated like I was the one that stole it. Maybe I messed up an investigation or something by trying to return it, but I was doing the right thing. Period. With it sitting right on the side of the road the only reasonable conclusion was the one that I drew, and would likely think the same thing if I found another one under similar circumstances. I found a girls wallet in the road one time. had a little money in it and her drivers license. I couldn't find her in the phone book, but found someone with the same last name and the same address, so I called them and told them I had her wallet. I told them where I worked (a state facility) and that I would be there the next day for her to come get it. The next day, the cops rolled in, questioning where I had gotten her wallet and how I had gotten her # since it was unlisted. When I answered the questions to their satisfaction, they did say thank you before leaving with her wallet. I don't know what this girl had been through, but at the time, I felt kinda like you did when you returned that compressor.
May the sound of hounds never die!

The most expensive thing I've ever found was a little Yamaha Dirt Bike Loaded it up and brought it home then had the law to come out and run the SN Nothing came up on it and was told to hold it for a month...I kept it for several months and finally gave it to a guy that wanted it

Just this winter (or lack of) I found an almost new Carhart like jacket at the end of an undeveloped culdesac. There hadn't been any work going on there for months. I put my gloves on and picked it up so I didn't get none on me if some was on it and put it in the back of the truck. Washed it a couple of times and me likes it!
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I found a nice extension ladder once.
What gets me is all the sofa cushions or boat cushions that you see on the side of the road.
the gun in the tree was actually the first thing that came to mind, made me wonder about the paypal I sent on the dog shooting!

Lost a 039 Stihl in an orange plastic case out of my truck bed with a slick bed liner when I forgot to close the tailgate years ago.
Somebody got ‘em about an $800 saw, as it was bought new not long before.
