I am new to turkey hunting. I am still lost on afternoon hunting   How late do you stay in the woods turkey hunting before the birds go to roost? I had 2 gobblers a couple evening ago move in on a trail I was watching at 530. I've got trail cam pics that show the birds sporadically using this trail. They head to some really tall pines on the adjacent property to roost, I'm trying to bust them on the way to their roosting spot  1. How late should I stay? 6? 630? 2. When do the birds go to roost? 30 minutes before sunset?

I got a pic of a gobbler walking down the road about a quarter mile from his roost tree (which I confirmed by being there the next morning) at 6:50 pm. The camera had already swapped over to nighttime black and whites.

They will fly up before it gets too dark to see. I don't know a time, but I am generally heading out before I have to use a flashlight to see to get out of the woods and back to a main road spur. You know about when they fly down in the morning, judge the same type of light.

My hunting buddy killed one last Friday at 6:40 pm heading to roost.

I have been seeing them fly up this week anywhere from 6:40-7:10ish.
Mine was in tree before 6pm last night Might have been an weird situation

I've killed em from 12 noon alll the way to sunset. Killed one that flew over me to the roost from 100 yards out in a soybean field.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I have had some of my best hunts in the afternoon. mature birds whos hens headed to nest. Came in quick, goobled like crazy and spit and drummed like no tomorrow.
It just takes one ready to play the game.
