Add me the the Yes list; just informed a neighbor 4 houses away is hospitalized at St Vincents with Covid 19. I think she is in 79; her boyfriend is 86. That's makes it real.

One of my guys is having symptoms. Got tested yesterday. Will know the results Tuesday. My other guys have asked what they are supposed to do. I told them we are like doctors. Until you are sick and can't work,we work. "like Doctors"....Ha!
I had much rather be tried by twelve than carried to my grave by six!!!!

My personal story;
I had symptoms last week, fought through it and went away. Never got tested. Kept to myself for a few days after fever was gone.
My 16 week pregnant wife became ill with either a stomach bug, or food poisoning this Wednesday afternoon. She puked all night Wednesday and Thursday morning reached a point of dehydration where we had no option except to take her to the ER. They triaged her in parking lot, took her in and gave her an IV. The blood test revealed elevated white blood cell counts so they did an MRI. MRI revealed appendicitis. They couldn’t do surgery that day because of blood thinners she is on for previous pregnancy issues. The morphine wasn’t enough to slow down the pain, so they were forced to do surgery anyway. In surgery they learned that the appendix was ruptured, they sedated her and put her on a port to drain what fluid they couldn’t get out in surgery.
All the while, no visitors in hospital, so she is alone and I have only FaceTimed with her.
The baby vitals are still okay, and we are still hopeful
She has now developed a fever, which we are concerned about
I know a lot of people think this whole thing is a joke, but it is not, to a lot of people

A good friend has two close family members who are positive here in Alabama and both are fighting it while on a vent in the ICU. I really wish folks could understand why the spread of this has to be slowed down. I also don’t understand how real estate agents, farmers, mechanics, and everyone else who knows nothing about medicine, hospital patient flow or the science behind medicine can tell people in the community around them that this virus is no worse than the flu. I’m no longer debating it on here or any where. We have never seen flu patients triaged in most major city hospitals in make shift MASH units outside the hospital buildings due to lack of hospital space. Hospitals operate like a pond. The pond is the ICU units in this case, the outlet pipe is your step down/med surge units. What happens when your outlet pipe clogs up and your pond is receiving heavy rain water for days? What happens is that you lose water in an emergency overflow you drenched on one side of your dam. In this case, patients are clogging up the ICU’s and at the same time less sicker patients are clogging up the step down beds. What happens to your everyday heart attack, stroke patients, DKA’s, and trauma patients? The hospitals only emergency overflow involves either discharge the less sick or wait for patients to die to open up beds. The problem is that all these folks are terribly sick at once over a few short weeks. It’s like getting your yearly rainfall in just a few weeks. Because of this it doesn’t matter if 500,000 need and ICU bed or 75,000 need an ICU bed. Too many at one time is too many. And it will happen this week in Alabama if it doesn’t slow down. Google Louisiana hospitals and the covid virus.
GO NOLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a discussion earlier with someone and the comparison to the flu was mentioned. Now, i will flat out and up front admit that I had no idea that the death rate from flu was as high as it is here in the states with what I would consider good healthcare in general. I brought up the fact that I have a friend who works at a bank (which is still operating with drive through and calls ahead for an appt if absolutely necessary) and she is a single mom with a daughter who has cystic fibrosis. She is not in a position to be able to just take an extended leave and not work. She desperately wants people to consider others when deciding whether they need to be out and about. I completely understand her position. When the comparison to flu was mentioned, my response was that the most vulnerable of the population have the option of getting the vaccination for the flu along with their families and that this virus had no vaccine. Sure, there are statistics showing the numbers of deaths from various things that are higher than the current deaths from this virus, but half of those other things are actually preventable in one way or another.
I think that is the thing lots of people don't take into consideration when making that comparison.
As for me, maybe it would just be better if everyone assumed everyone else had something contagious and took appropriate measures to protect themselves.
And, I have to say that as I was on my way to my physical therapy appt, which is the only place I have gone now in several days that I have been out of my car, the parking lot where the Tractor Supply, Pic-N-Sav grocery store and Marvin's Building Supply was dang near full. I was talking to my mom over the bluetooth in my car and made the comment that at some point I would need to get some things from the store, but that I really did not want to go when so many other people were there. I guess there are lots of people that are just not worried about catching this or don't think it will be that bad for them. But, I sit on the fence between optimism and pessimism with a little tilt toward the latter.
I do know I will be glad when things get back to normal...if they ever do.
If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you.---Winnie the Pooh
