Practically shut my office down. I'll work a total of 15 hours in the afternoons only over the next 2 weeks unless something changes. If I see over 25 people over that time I'll be shocked.

Thats just road trucks..Also the mortgage rates should go down after this an that will be good for lumber prices. Maybe more people be building homes. We have missed a lot of work this winter with all the rain we having. Still a mudhole here in north al. We only averaging 3 days a week since january. Sawmills are laying people off because they can t get wood. Nothing to do with virus. Our main pulp mill make packaging boxes an thats booming now with all the online shopping. We usually miss work in winter time because of weather but this winter been ridiculous. I guess that why im prepared for the virus thing. The logging buiness could be gone tomorrow. Thats alway on our mind. I never assume my job is safe. The 08 crisis really thinned out a lot of loggers. Then the the ip mill closed in courtland it was a shock to all of us in logging . Lots of loggers went out buiness in this area. So far so good. Could be a slow down in short term but in long term i think it could be better for us. If it ever stops raining we will be good. Haven t had a many sunny days in a long time. Thats enough to depress you but spring is here

That’s crazy the biggest operation around here just shut down for a month due to being on quota.

Our work is still wide open in construction and engineering. Had guys with overtime last week despite the rain. No slow down in construction YET. I talked to several guys with different utility boards in north alabama, they all said the same thing, they have enough reserves to keep utilities on for 6 months whether they get paid or not.

My thinking out loud, this is going to cause a slowdown in the economy including construction. The question is how much? And when? Assuming things go back to normal after this 2 week shutdown, I think the pain will be minimally felt by everyone, and will be more isolated to effect certain segments more such as those in the service industry ie retail, restuarants etc.

If they extend this shutdown or the curve of cases steepens, we are all in for a rough summer. Developers and lenders alike will tighten up on their money, and even construction will slow.

Regardless, I think we will see a a delayed whiplash effect to the economy. Especially, with the Fed lowering the interest rate. At some point they will have to raise rates. When they do the stock markets gonna dip again.

i have a trucking company and a significant part of our business is pulling trailers between Fedex terminals. Fedex's business is booming right now and they are almost handling as much volume as they do during Christmas time. it will probably get another spike if the government hands everyone a $1200 check but if this lasts for more than two weeks, I anticipate a downturn in shipping because folks wont have the money to buy stuff.

One other thing, if anything good comes out of this, it should be that businesses and individuals alike should develop some adult responsibility and put a fricking emergency fund in-place.

I'm concerned about construction .....I think the momentum is carrying it for now. If this thing doesn't turn around in a couple/few weeks it's gonna get interesting.

So how many months of salary should I have saved up for my very small business at the tune of $40,000 a month?

My monthly overhead is $30,000 even if I close my doors and shut down. I have emergency fund and can last a good while but it sucks.

That is a helluva tough decission. You have an emergency fund. Not knowing how long this will last, you spend the emergency fund but fund runs dry before business comes back?? Shut down now and save that emergency fund?? I don't envy you having to make that decission. There would be a LOT of sleepless nights for me.

Caterjv, we got 2 crews working in the job in Cherokee. Over 200 loads of rock on that job to get rds across corn fields this time of year. Good timber. Got time limit on it . Got be gone by march 31. Of all thing s that area is a bat migration zone . Bunch of goverment crap. All trees got be cut down before bats get there. Some company from california bought bunch acres there . Gonna be a 2,000 acre solar farm. May be tied into the facebook call center . They wanted so much green energy to put there company here in this area.

I went and picked up supper for the family tonight. I asked the manager how they were doing. He said business had been cut at least in half, probably more like 2/3. If this lasts long, it's gonna take out a lot of restaurants.

Some of the ones here that had switched gears to delivery and curb side pick up for take out through yesterday have chosen to close now for an indefinite period of time. I do not know if they were just doing that until their current inventory got used/sold or if there were other issues involved in making that decision. But, as of right now, Big Mike's Steakhouse, Tabby D's (and Christian Books & Gifts), and CJ's Grille have closed down completely in Andalusia and in Opp, The Wheelhouse has closed down until whenever all this is over.

We work with construction and production plants . (steel, auto, manufacturing etc) So far we havent really slowed down. We are seeing a lot of our customers sending their office personal home.

Yea I know about it, a friend is working it. His truck is staying covered in red clay. Last dinner party he was telling me about the amount of rock. That was crazy. Y'all seem to be running 24/7 cause of the deadline? Y'all handling stump removal too? Some good looking pines coming out of there.

I think there is 3 different landowners there, several good ducks holes have been lost too. Some really good bucks have been taken there as you mentioned. A buddy hunted one place that was loaded with birds. Killed a lot of dove on that one field by Cherokee Nitrogen.

What's sad, it takes about 12,500 acres of solar to replace the what was once the Steam Plant.
I believe there is only a couple of thousand acres in that area being converted. Location was chosen for the high line is what I was told.
