Morning fellas. No church today so I’ll have service in the woods today. Hope everyone had a blessed day and brings home some Spurs.

gave it a rest today but will be at it tomorrow and until further notice. I will only be in the office 15 hours in the afternoons only for the next 2 weeks unless something changes.

I killed one on Friday during the disabled day but forgot to take a pic on the dam thing with the score before i fed it to the the coyotes down back !!!
New to this game ,but i’ll catch on . I’ll stay on em as much as i can .

I'm heading out in the morning. I didn't hear any Gobbling Saturday or Sunday so I hope they will be active in the AM. My goal is to sit over a rye field and make them come look for me without any decoys up.

Good with me. The work thing I do is killing me. Slipping out this afternoon to take a sit. I’m lucky I work 30 minutes from home and club is 7 miles from the house.

I sat over a rye field this morning and didn't hear a yelp or a gobble. Hope the season improves because turkey signs are getting thin it seems.

Got another 2 year old. The one Wednesday morning took six steps off the roost and died at 6:35am. The one today was a little tougher. He gobbled around 300 times I bet and I finally got his girlfriends to ease my way and i pulled the trigger at 9:45am. Seasons starting off great. This heat is getting on my nerves. It shouldn’t be this hot this early.

Went up to the WMA yesterday. Had 1 bird that would only shock gobble
Crows,helios,woodpeckers,squirls but would not come of his ridge and play ball
I didn’t know what else to do ,so i left him alone for another day .
At 12:20 on my way out , struck another bird . He cut me off once then went silent.
That one might have seen me because he was close when he struck .
I’ve been in the game , just not in the kill zone YET!!!!

Thanks to bgarrett, I finally found the team. I was beginning to think I got left out of the competition. I have been swamped with family ordeals and sickness and have only been able to go twice. Both morning I got on birds but they locked up as soon as they hit the ground. I’m about to have a whole lot more time to go and lord willing I’ll be contributing soon.

Congrats on the bird Doc. I like postimage now its way easier and Iphone friendly. Bgarrett im gonna wait to post mine only if I need too. I hope to get some high scoring turkeys before its over. Im gonna be hunting strictly public land the next few weeks in Bama. Most of the two year olds should be thinned out so maybe some of those long shanked mac daddys will have some hens leaving to nest soon.

Good birds guys. Congrats. I was around lots of birds Friday-Sunday but my rushing and then my impatience cost me several times.

Bird #2 nothing special except the hunt.

Got another public lander this afternoon. I set up near a ridge cut he had roosted at the previous couple of days. Sat down at 5:54pm and pulled the trigger at 6:28pm. He never gobbled but I heard him start drumming down in the flat below me after my first call. He slowly made his way up and I shot him at 15 yards as he crested the rise on the bench

You aint kidding Dr B !!! The opener was great . Been in the game several times but being deaf on one side makes it a crap shoot to
Tell direction . I love huntin birds but it is dam near impossible to pinpoint em . I hunt with my eyes and head on a swivel. Not givin up though . You know what they say about a blind squrrel.

Im going to a new spot in the morning, I’ve only been able to go a handful of times and I haven’t had any cooperation out of them. Hopefully a change up is all I need.

Change is good, bird #1 down. Feels good to break the ice. I’ll post pics shortly.

Congrats Forest!

I heard 4 this morning and was done by 6:38. He came in on a string. 10 1/4 in beard and 3/4 inch spurs. After three times out with no cooperation out of the birds in south Montgomery I decided to change it up and hit some pastureland I have access to. Was a great morning.

Good stories Doc.

Finally got my third and last bird. 11.25 beard my personal best.

Well it’s over for me. Had a good season, got 3 mature birds and passed up 3 two year olds. Congrats to you killers. Tenth, you need to add a third bird. We made top half. Doc, enjoyed the stories and pics. Well, time to start growing eagle seed soybeans and chufa for our birds. Club had a good year. 3000 ac and 16 birds killed between 6 of us. Better luck to guys that didn’t get your birds.

Sorry for the absence guys but ive had a death in the family (Uncle) and have been dealing with that lately. I filled all of my tags in Bama. Ive got some out of state hunts in the works. I hope to drop a heavy weight midwestern bird in the next couple of weeks if this pandemic allows it. Congrats to all of you that connected with some birds this year ive enjoyed being a part of the team and cant stand this feeling I get when spring is winding down. Im gonna try to chase it across this great country as long as I can.

Well!!!
I got my ars kicked this year. Started off with a good bird on opening day and went steady down hill from there.It’s not like i didn’t get in em but i just could not make it happen. I had multiple birds within 40 yrds and many more just outside of gun range . You what they say, close dont count !!! I am going to try to get a cochlear implant this summer which should help greatly in localization of sounds. I havent heard stereo in over 25 years so i’m looking forward to it for sure. I do want to congratulate all you guys that made it look easy and got it done !!! Way to go
