Where's the best place within an hour or so of Huntsville to get crown and baseboard molding? Doing some remodeling and need to pick up a bunch. I know that Lowe's and Home Depot mark up molding a ton.

I’d use MDF instead of “real” lumber. It doesn’t expand and contract nearly as much and if you paint it, you can’t tell the difference anyway. Plus it comes in longer lengths than wood. Any local lumber store will carry it.

I would check with Littrell Lumber in Decatur they have their own molding maching, or Gobble Fite in Decatur. May also try Persell Lumber and Mill Shop in Athens.

Hate MDF. Cope the joints like you should and there shouldn't be any gaps show up.

Until you turn your heat on in the winter.

Back prime the wood before you cut it and seal cut ends to reduce shrinkage. MDF can be good, but if it gets wet it's garbage.

Hadn't had any problems when I cope joints. Butt them and they will always shrink and show a gap.

Give HA Pippen in Town Creek a call. I redone a deck last summer and they had good prices.

If you buy crown or base from a salvage company, make sure every piece is just like the others. Measure every detail.
I learned the hard way. Yes MDF comes in long lengths, but it's hell to put up without a crew because it lacks stiffness.
What you gain in purchase price you loose in labor.
