What is an occupational tax and does it stop random gunfire in the city? It doesn't matter. Wetumpka/ Millbrook is stomping Montgomery's @$$. Y'all just looking at the occupational tax. Compare sales taxes. Compare crime rates. The list goes on and on why to stay out of Montgomery. All these taxes add up. Government jobs will not leave Montgomery. It will be a constant tax revenue. That's what Selma said about Craig Field.

I would imagine Federal and State employees will be exempt. My understanding is the tax is based on where the company headquarters is located. Even if you never come to Montgomery but the company is based out of Montgomery you will be taxed.

Even if you never come to Montgomery but the company is based out of Montgomery you will be taxed. They will tax all of us, I'm sure. You can itemize your taxes and get your money back in your tax return. Which makes no sense. The revenue will be squandered and Fairview will never get paved or widened.

I thought the legislature was gonna end this crap. Sounds like they’re too late in this case. Assuming it’ll hit the legislators too.
😂 assuming it’ll hit the legislators Hahaha ha!!!! Only an absolute idiot thinks our legislature hasn't already exempted themselves.

Back in the 90s when Jefferson County had an occupational tax it was based on the physical location of your most common work location. If you went to an office or building and that was the primary place that you worked or the building that you worked out of (for those not working in an office setting but sent out by the office personnel).....that was the location used to determine tax. Blue Cross and Blue Shield had some buildings in Riverchase that were in Jefferson County and one building in Shelby County. The employees who were in the Shelby County building did not pay the occupational tax.

Let me ask a question. How come state, county, city and water authority employees (who are required to have a CDL) are all exempt from the annual physical examination?? Answer: Follow the money. It's obviously got nothing to do with making our highway safer. Same reason our state government officials will exempt themselves from the occupation tax.... Follow the money.

We never had a permanent job site (ie: office or warehouse). Our job site was portable, and we moved our equipment wherever we was working. Anytime we moved inside Jefferson County we paid the illegal tax.

Montgomery has always been the State capital? That can't change? BS!! You can't be anymore wrong if you think Gov. jobs won't leave Montgomery. For example, there is about 12,500 people between Maxwell and Gunter. Do you have any idea how many have left from its peak?? I know the number and I know a lot went to Edwards. But if you don't know Military is Government....I don't know what to say.

The sad part is, a friend of mine (not close friends) , is the council member who proposed the bill. I'm fairly certain he's a Republican voter but he's been in city government long enough that this seemed like a good idea, to him. SMH
